Noorul Huda

 

The Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to Comrade Noorul Huda, former member of the Central Committee.

 

Noorul Huda joined the Communist Party in 1949 as a student activist in Kolkata. After moving to Assam, he worked among the peasantry and became a member of the Assam provincial committee of Kisan Sabha and a member of the Central Kisan Council.  He also worked as finance secretary of the All India Kisan Sabha from 2006 to 2013.

 

Noorul Huda became a member of the Assam state committee of the CPI(M) in 1970 and state secretariat in  1978.  He was elected to the Central Committee of the Party in 1985 at the 12th Congress and continued till the 20th Congress in 2012. 

 

Noorul Huda was elected as a member of parliament in 1973 from Silchar constituency and a member of legislative assembly in Assam for one term.

 

He was jailed number of times and spent two years and eight months in jail.

Hashim Abdul Halim

 

This Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Comrade Hashim Abdul Halim, veteran leader of the Party.

 

Comrade Halim joined the Party in 1964. He was elected to the West Bengal state committee of the Party in 1991 and continued till the last state conference after which he became a special invitee.

 

Comrade Halim was the law minister when the first Left Front government was sworn in West Bengal in 1977. He served as speaker of the West Bengal assembly for 29 years from 1982 to 2011. He was one of the strongest pillars in maintaining communal harmony in the state of West Bengal. Halim spent seven years underground.

Parsa Satyanarayana

 

This Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Comrade Parsa Satyanarayana, veteran leader of the trade union movement and a member of the Andhra Pradesh secretariat of the Party.


He joined the Party in 1943, and had to immediately go underground. He was president of the Andhra Pradesh state committee of the CITU for thirty years.


Comrade Parsa participated in the historic Telangana armed struggle. Arrested in 1947, he escaped from jail two years later, but was caught again and stayed behind bars until he was finally released in 1953. He was also imprisoned during the India-China War.


He was elected to the Andhra Pradesh legislative assembly from Paloncha constituency in 1962.

Narra Raghava Reddy

 

This Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays tributes to the memory of Comrade Narra Raghava Reddy, former member of the Andhra Pradesh state committee of the Party.

 

Narra Raghava Reddy was elected as an MLA from Nakirekal constituency in Nalgonda district of present Telangana state for six times. He acted as the deputy leader and leader of the Party in the state assembly and always stood for the rights of people and championed the cause of the poor.

 

He got involved in the trade union movement while he was a textile worker in Surat, Gujarat. He was elected to the state committee of the CPI(M) in 1971 and remained a member till his health permitted. He was imprisoned for four years.

S Prasanna Kumar

 

This Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Comrade S Prasanna Kumar, member of the secretariat of the Karnataka state committee of the Party.

 

After actively participating in the student movement, Prasanna  joined the trade union movement and became an important leader of the working class in Karnataka. He rose to the post of general secretary of the CITU.  At the time of his untimely death he was leading many important unions in the public sector as also of other sections of the organised and unorganised workers.

Rattan Singh

 

The Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to the memory of Comrade Rattan Singh, a veteran of the Party in Punjab.

 

Rattan Singh joined the Party in 1953. Beginning his work in the Party in Derabasi area he worked in various capacities in the Party, the trade union and the kisan Sabha. He was chairman of the state control commission of the Party earlier. At the time of his death, he was a special invitee to the state committee.

 

He was known for the welfare activities he undertook in his area. He had donated his property worth crores of rupees to the Party for running a Party school.

Sadhan Gupta

This Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) pays homage to Sadhan Gupta, veteran member of the Party from West Bengal.

Sadhan Gupta joined the Communist Party in 1944. In 1953, he became India’s first person with visual impairment who was elected to the Lok Sabha when he won from the Kolkata south-east constituency. He was elected to the West Bengal legislative assembly later on. In 1986, he was appointed the advocate general of West Bengal. He also founded and headed several organisations of disabled persons during his life time.

Homage to Martyrs

 

The Plenum of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) dips its red banner in memory of the six members and supporters of the Party who were killed by the Trinamul Congress goons in West Bengal since the 21st Congress of the Party in April.  A total of 171 Party and Left Front members and supporters have laid down their lives, since the TMC came to power in 2011.

 

The Plenum pays homage to the memory of these valiant comrades who died fighting, upholding high the Red flag and cause of the Party.
