DSMM Demands Stringent Action into Attack on Dalit Family in Faridabad
Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch condemns the heinous incident of burning to death of a Dalit family in Faridabad in the early hours on October 20. Two year old Vaibhav, ten months old Divya died before reaching hospital in Delhi. Rekha, their mother is undergoing treatment in the ICU with serious injuries. Jitender Kumar, their father received burn injuries on his hands. Petrol was poured into their room, in which they were sleeping, through a window that was open and they were set alight.
DSMM delegation visited Sunpeda village in Faridabad and met Jitender Kumar today. Despite receiving prior complaints from Jitender Kumar, over the possible attacks on them by the dominant caste in the village, the police did not act. Had the police acted, this gruesome incident would not have occurred. The failure of the state government in not intervening to provide security to the family and warn and take action against the intimidators, cannot be condoned.
The DSMM demands immediate release of adequate compensation to the victim’s family and provision of best medical care for Rekha who is in a critical condition. It demands stringent action against the responsible police officials. It demands immediate arrest of all the culprits and trying them under the SC/ST Prevention of Atrocities Act.
