CPI(M) State Plenum Concludes
ON November 29, 2013, the CPI(M)’s Kerala state plenum, held over the last three days at EMS Nagar in Palakkad, concluded with an appeal to the party cadres to intervene strongly in the concrete political issues in the state. The plenum also decided to energise the organisation. The plenum, which was attended by all-India leaders of the party, including its general secretary Prakash Karat and Polit Bureau members Sitaram Yechury, S Ramachandran Pillai and M A Baby, culminated with a massive rally that was attended by nearly two lakh party workers coming from Palakkad district alone.
The plenum has acquired historic significance as it was held to ensure the invigoration of organisational structure with criticism, self-criticism and rectification. An important decision taken was to strengthen the struggles including a movement against the corrupt UDF government and the unilateral and undemocratic implementation of the Kasturirangan report which would make an adverse impact on agriculture in 123 villages in the Western Ghats.
Massive resistance actions to protect the cooperative sector, public sector units, agriculture sector and traditional industries were also planned in the plenum. Twelve important resolutions were approved; one of them issued a call to ensure the protection of women and children. The plenum resolved to make the grand siege of the Kerala chief minister’s residence a grand success.
The plenum unanimously adopted the organisational document which was presented by CPI(M) state secretary, Pinarayi Vijayan. This document urged the cadres at all levels to rectify the flaws and to launch measures to attract more and more sections. It noted that sectarianism in the party had caused a setback to the attempts to make use of the possibilities.
The rally held in the Municipal Stadium was inaugurated by Prakash Karat while Pinarayi Vijayan presided over. S Ramachandran Pillai, Sitaram Yechury, M A Baby and Kodiyeri Balakrishanan addressed the rally.
