CITU observes Jallianwala Bagh Day, calls for united anti-Imperialist movement

The inspiring milestone incident of Indian freedom struggle, the Jallianwala Bagh massacre by British imperialism, was commemorated by the CITU at Jallianwala Bagh, Amritsar, on April 13, 2026.

The programme, organised by the Amritsar district committee of CITU, started with paying tribute at the martyrs' memorial at Jallianwala Bagh. The leaders and cadres of CITU and AIKS marched to the memorial and payed floral tributes amidst anti-imperialist slogans.

A well attended seminar on 'Jallianwala Bagh and anti-imperialist struggles today' was held in the auditorium at Putlighar, Amritsar. The seminar was presided over by Sucha Singh Ajnala, Vice President, Punjab CITU. Chandra Shekhar, Punjab CITU President, gave a detailed account of the background of the Jallianwala Bagh massacre and the legacy of the revolutionary movement in the Indian freedom struggle. He said that the relevance of the anti-imperialist struggles is much more today when our ruling classes are totally surrendering to US imperialism. Usharani, Secretary, CITU, commemorated the legacy of Sardar Udham Singh and the Ghadar movement in the Independence struggle.

A R Sindhu, Secretary, CITU, spoke in detail about how the RSS parivar betrayed the Indian independence movement by colluding with British imperialism then and how the BJP-RSS combine is betraying our national interest now by surrendering to US imperialism. It is important for the trade union and kisan movement, which carries the legacy of our freedom struggle, to mobilise the working people in the struggle against imperialist war and onslaught on the economic shere. Appreciating the efforts of the CITU in collecting the solidarity fund for Cuba, which is the beacon of resistance against US imperialism, she called upon the cadres of CITU and AIKS to strengthen worker-peasant unity at the grassroot level to resist the communal divisive forces and mobilise the masses in our fight against the corporate-communal nexus and to achieve real freedom for the working people. The Amritsar CITU district committee handed over Rs 50000 for the Cuba solidarity fund at the meeting.
