The Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) National Council meeting held on February 24, 2026, at Kurukshetra in Haryana decided to oppose the anti-national India-US Trade Deal tooth and nail across the country. Over 200 SKM leaders from across the country attended this meeting.
The servile surrender on the India-US Trade Deal by the Modi-led BJP union government to US imperialism represented by Donald Trump, despite the US Supreme Court nullifying the entire tariff terrorism of the Trump regime, was denounced by the SKM National Council.
Action Plan
On March 9, the first day of the coming Parliament session, the SKM, the Central Trade Unions (CTUs) and the Agricultural Workers Unions will hold a large dharna at Jantar Mantar in Delhi to demand the cancellation of the India US Trade Deal. This dharna will also demand the repeal of the four Labour Codes and will oppose the pro-corporate and anti-people Electricity Amendment Bill and the Seed Bill, and the replacement of MNREGA by Gram-G.
The dharna will reiterate the SKM demand that the President of India sack Commerce Minister Piyush Goyal, direct the Prime Minister not to sign the anti-national India-US Trade Deal, and direct the Finance Minister Nirmala Sitaraman to withdraw the DO letter to end bonus to wheat and paddy farmers. Farmers will take out processions to the post offices to send such open letters to the President of India.
The SKM in this dharna will also focus on its original demands of a remunerative MSP as per the C2 + 50% formula of the Swaminathan Commission, liberation from debt of the peasantry, a revamped pro-farmer crop insurance scheme, and old age pensions for agricultural workers and poor peasants. All these demands have been always addressed to the union government.
From March 10, until the Jallianwala Bagh Massacre Day on April 13, large Mahapanchayats will be held in all states across the country on all the above issues, with the focus being on the disastrous India-US Trade Deal and other pro-corporate measures of the Modi regime. This campaign will begin with a massive Kisan Mahapanchayat at Barnala in Punjab.
Thousands of village meetings will be held across the country to create awareness on the grave danger to India. These village meetings will especially cover the crops which are likely to be most affected by the India-US Trade Deal such as apple, soya bean, cotton, maize, and so on.
On March 23, Martyrs' Day will be observed all over the country as Anti-Imperialist Day.
On or after February 27, SKM delegations will meet the Chief Ministers and the Leaders of the Opposition of the respective states demanding that they fight the centralisation of power by the Modi Government and protect the federal rights of the states, urge Parliament to amend the GST Act to restore the taxation power of the states, allocate 60 per cent share instead of the current 33 per cent of the divisible pool to states including cess and surcharges.
Other Issues
SKM will have coordination meetings with the Platform of Central Trade Unions and Agricultural Workers Unions and decide the future plan of united struggles.
The meeting adopted a resolution to condemn the police repression unleashed on farmers’ agitations in Punjab, Odisha and Maharashtra.
A 15-member SKM committee will be formed to meet the committee formed by the Supreme Court on the farmers’ demands on MSP and related issues.
On the letter sent by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha - Non Political (India), the SKM decided to form a five-member committee of Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Yudhvir Singh, P Krishnaprasad, Raminder Singh Patiala and Baldev Singh Nihalgarh to hold discussions with them.
The seven-member presidium of the SKM meeting comprised Joginder Singh Ugrahan, Rakesh Tikait, Dr Ashok Dhawale, Jagmohan Singh, Ashish Mittal, Joginder Nain, and Rajan Kshirsagar. They addressed the packed press conference at the end of the meeting. It was well covered by both the mainstream media and the social media.
The agenda of the meeting was placed by P Krishnaprasad. Inderjit Singh welcomed the participants on behalf of the Haryana SKM. Several SKM members took part in the discussion. They included Rakesh Singha, Abdul Rashid, and Balbir Master of the AIKS. Other AIKS leaders who attended were Manoj Kumar, Dharampal Singh Seal, Sumit Singh, Shubhojeet Dey, Bashir Abdul Wani, Ashok Arora, and Pratap Singh.
All the participants garlanded the statue of the prominent peasant leader Choudhari Chhotu Ram at the Jat Dharamshala in Kurukshetra, where the SKM meeting was held.
