Kerala Health Minister Veena George Injured in KSU Attack

N S Sajith

Workers of Kerala Students Union, a student wing, attacked Kerala Health Minister Veena George and injured her on February 25, at Kannur railway station. The rampage of a few attackers occurred while Veena George was walking to the platform after attending various programmes, including the inaugural ceremony of International Ayurvedic Research Centre in Kalyad, Kannur. She was rushed to the district hospital and admitted to the intensive care unit.

A series of violent attacks were planned by UDF workers across the district since the minister arrived. On Sunday, February 22, Youth Congress miscreants attacked Veena George's official residence. They barged into the premises after breaking down the gate and put a funeral wreath in front of the house.

Reacting to the incident, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan said that the KSU attack against Health Minister Veena George in Kannur is a reflection of the Congress party's heinous politics.

Kerala possesses the best healthcare sector in India, a fact recognized by all official agencies. Despite this, exaggerating certain incidents to attack a Minister who is in no way involved cannot be seen as politics; it can only be viewed as political indecency, Pinarayi said.

The Congress leadership should not think they can destroy the law and order of the state or incite riots by letting their followers loose. The responsibility for this lies solely with the leadership of the Congress and the UDF front. The style of their politics—polluting the environment with completely baseless allegations—is what has manifested through these KSU attackers, he said.

This is extremely deplorable and deserves a strong protest, Pinarayi added.
