The two-day 10th Andaman & Nicobar State Conference held at Port Blair (Sri Vijaya Puram) on December 20-21, 2025, decided to join the nation-wide agitation against the four anti-working class labour codes. A resolution in this connection was passed in the Delegate Session of the Conference on 21st December, 2025.
The two-day conference began with a massive procession of workers on December 20, 2025, evening in which about one thousand workers from various trade unions of Port Blair and nearby rural areas participated. Com K Hemalata, all India President, CITU, was taken in a decorated jeep in front of the procession. The procession culminated in the Open Session at Tiranga Park in the town, where Com K Hemalata hoisted the CITU flag amidst sloganeering by hundreds of workers.
Inaugurating the Open Session, K Hemalata appreciated the struggles conducted by the CITU and its unions in the islands. She said that about 80 lakhs workers are working in the central and centrally sponsored schemes in the country and these workers are not even treated as workers due to which they are denied the minimum wages. Referring to the implementation of the four new labour codes, Hemalata said that this will take away whatever benefits are enjoyed by the workers in the country so far. More workers will be out of coverage of the statutory benefits. She said that these labour laws were enacted only with the intention to help the corporates in the country. She warned that these labour codes would push the workers into grave exploitation and slavery by the corporates.
R Surendran Pillai, President, CITU A & N State Committee, presided over the Open Session. B Chandrachoodan, General Secretary, D Ayyappan, Vice President and S P Kalairajan, Secretary, CITU State Committee and Abdul Warish, Convener, SFI A & N State Organising Committee, also addressed the public meeting. The Delegate Session of the Conference was held on December 21, 2025, at Kerala Samajam Hall, Port Blair. R Surendran Pillai hoisted the CITU flag at the venue of the Conference. Thereafter, K Hemalata and the delegates and observers paid floral tributes to the martyrs at the specially erected Martyrs Memorial Column.
A presidium comprising R Surendran Pillai, D Ayyappan, B C Bhattacharjee and Daniel Aint were elected to conduct the Delegate Session. A condolence resolution moved by S P Kalairajan paid homage to those leaders and workers who passed away since last state conference held in November 2022.
Inaugurating the Delegate Session, K Hemalata said that it is the CITU which has been fighting against the anti-working class policies of the successive governments at the centre ever since these policies were implemented in 1991. Referring to the difficult conditions under which the workers are living, she emphasised the need to create awareness in the working class about the exploitation and inequality prevailing in society.
