Repackaging Genocide Amidst Growing Isolation

Sam

THE ‘Gaza Peace Plan’ unveiled by Washington bears all the hallmarks of a unilateral diktat rather than a genuine settlement. Far from being a genuine peace initiative, it is a unilateral move, choreographed as a spectacle by Trump, designed to divert attention from the seismic shifts occurring in world opinion on Palestine. Announced in fanfare alongside Israeli representatives, the proposal has already been denounced in much of the world as nothing short of a sham, designed not to bring peace to Gaza but to shield Israel and Washington from mounting diplomatic and moral pressure.

Over recent months, the isolation of the United States on Palestine has become increasingly stark. The High-level International Conference for the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, convened in New York by member states of the United Nations in July 2025, further cemented this shift. The mood of the Conference in which even international organisations submitted proposals to support its substantive outcomes was clear: the era in which Washington could monopolise peace initiatives in the Middle East is fading. The UN General Assembly resolution of September 12, 2025, endorsed the ‘New York Declaration’ on the Two-State Solution, which saw 142 countries — including India — voting for, 10 — only 8 apart from the US and Israel — against, and 12 abstaining. It underscored the declining willingness of the international community to indulge Washington’s double standards.

What's more telling is that several Western states long identified with Tel Aviv’s line — including Spain, Italy, Ireland, Belgium, sections of the Scandinavian bloc like Norway and even elements within France and Germany — have broken with Washington’s narrative. This break signals a profound alienation: a recognition by those states that standing with US-Israeli aggression means standing against popular opinion in their own societies and defying international law. Their support for Palestine, even if cautious, represents a widening fracture in what was once a united pro-Israeli Western front. For Washington, this constitutes a rebuke that can no longer be dismissed as the rhetoric of so-called ‘hostile’ powers.

Standing behind this tide of shifting allegiances is the growing consolidation of global forces unwilling to bow to US hegemony. China and Russia have openly coordinated with the Arab League, calling for a genuine political process and a truly multilateral approach to the Palestinian issue, based in international law and recognition of Palestinian rights. This new axis has articulated an alternative framework to Washington’s one-sided peace shows — one rooted in dialogue rather than diktat, sovereignty rather than occupation. This is a direct counter to the hegemonistic adventurism of Washington and Tel Aviv.

Events outside the corridors of diplomacy have also amplified the pressure. The sailing of the Sumud Flotilla, an international humanitarian convoy heading toward Gaza waters and escorted symbolically by Spanish and Italian vessels, has electrified opinion across Europe and captured the global imagination. The image of an ‘armada of solidarity’ has become emblematic of mounting global impatience with the siege of Gaza, dramatising the collective refusal to normalise collective punishment. It has underscored that the blockade of Gaza is an affront to humanity. It is a reminder that people across continents are aligned with the Palestinian struggle, refusing to be complicit in silence.

It is precisely in this context of surging solidarity, growing isolation and global pressure that Washington and Tel Aviv have staged their latest performance, rather a circus! Trump, ever keen to recast disasters as carnival, has rolled out his Gaza Peace Plan — a 20 point proposal — not as a true negotiation framework but as a diversionary tactic. It attempts to co-opt the language of reconstruction and stability while leaving the core issues of occupation, blockade, and self-determination untouched. It bypasses the people of Palestine and arrogantly asserts unilateral ‘so-called’ solutions.

The truth is plain: the people of Palestine are bearing witness to history swinging away from Washington’s grip. The Palestinian people, however, have demonstrated through decades of struggle their capacity for Sumud — steadfastness. Today they are backed by a new global consensus that runs contrary to US unilateralism. With their steadfastness, mirrored in the flotilla’s voyage and the diplomatic realignments across continents, the US-Israeli partnership — imperialism and Zionism — finds itself increasingly cornered. In that corner lies not diplomacy, but a desperate circus act to stave off a crumbling consensus, while the Palestinian cause advances with renewed strength and legitimacy.
