IN response to a call by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), thousands of angry residents marched through the scorching heat to the District Collectorate in Sikar on July 26, raising slogans such as “Scrap Master Plan 2041,” “The land is ours, your loot won’t be tolerated.” The protest was a direct challenge to the anti-people Bhajanlal government in the state.
Amid heavy sloganeering, CPI(M) MP Amra Ram, and CPI(M) leaders Kishan Pareek, Pemaram, and Kudli sarpanch, Prabhu Ola, and Shivsinhpura sarpanch Mahaveer Saini publicly burned copies of Master Plan 2041 as a warning to the state government.
Addressing the public meeting jointly presided over by Harisingh Garhwal, Mahaveer Sarpanch, Santosh Pareek, Girdhari Sai, and Raj Dorwal, Amra Ram stated, “These lands are not gifts—we’ve inherited them through the blood and struggle of our ancestors. The BJP government of Rajasthan, under the guise of Master Plan 2041, is trying to seize the lands of farmers from 50 villages surrounding Sikar and evict poor families in the city who have built their homes through hard work.”
CPI(M) state secretary Kishan Pareek pointed out that the Master Plan lacks physical verification and is far removed from ground realities. “Densely populated areas where people have lived for hundreds of years are being declared 'utility zones', while influential individuals, land mafias, and political elites have had their empty plots and farmhouses declared as residential colonies,” he said.
Former MLA and CPI(M) district secretary Pemaram said that thousands of families in Sikar are deeply worried by the plan. “In the Shekhawati region, after the BJP's loss in the Lok Sabha elections following the Assembly polls, Amra Ram won as an MP from the INDIA alliance. The government is now taking revenge through such actions,” he alleged.
Public anger against the Master Plan is evident from the fact that 4,537 people have already submitted written objections to the government in a short span of time. Protesters vowed that the plan will not be allowed to be implemented under any circumstances.
The gathering was also addressed by leaders including Sagar Khachariya of the Kisan Sabha, Brijsundar Jangid of CITU, Ramratan Bagadia of the Agricultural Workers’ Union, Subhash Jakhar of SFI, and others.
Under Pemaram’s leadership, a delegation including Sarpanch Prabhu Ola, Rajendra Dorwal, Sagar Khachariya, and advocate Jhabarmal Royal submitted a memorandum addressed to the chief minister, to the district collector.
