Jharkhand: CPI(M) Calls for Defeating Communal Forces In Upcoming Assembly Elections

AS Jharkhand gears up for its upcoming assembly elections, the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued an appeal to voters, urging them to defeat communal forces and strengthen the presence of Left and secular representatives in the state legislature. The elections, scheduled to take place in two phases on November 13 and November 20, 2024, will see over 2.6 crore voters casting their ballots at nearly 30,000 polling booths across 81 assembly constituencies. The results will be announced on November 23.

The CPI(M) noted that this election is crucial for the future of Jharkhand. On one side, there is the BJP led NDA alliance which is conspiring to divide the people of the state on communal basis by giving the slogan of forming a double engine government.

On the other hand, there is the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha and Congress-led INDIA alliance, which has not shown any seriousness in trying to build broad unity to form a secular government in the state.

In this situation, the CPI(M) has set the target of defeating the BJP in the state and bringing pro-people alternative policies to the centre of the state politics and electing representatives of the working people to the Jharkhand legislative assembly

The party has announced its decision to contest nine seats in the Assembly, with a campaign focused on addressing key issues such as unemployment, displacement, migration, poverty, and the erosion of tribal and dalit rights.

The political landscape of Jharkhand is being marred by opportunistic party-switching where politicians have jumped between alliances without regard for political ideologies. Leaders who used to spread hatred till yesterday change their parties overnight and join so-called secular parties to get tickets in elections. This is a dangerous trend for the state's political future, and voters must take a stand against this opportunism, CPI(M) said.

CPI(M) emphasized the need for a stronger representation of CPI(M) and other Left forces in the assembly to ensure the voices of the poor, tribal communities, and marginalised groups are heard. The increase in Left representation is crucial for enacting policies that benefit the working people and protect constitutional rights in Jharkhand.
