Martyrs Number Crosses Hundred

THE unending list of martyrs of Left Parties in West Bengal, after Trinamul government came to power, has crossed hundred on June 23 when two CPI(M) workers were killed in Rejinagar in Murshidabad disatrict. In Rejinagar, a group of CPI(M) activists were attacked when they were returning after campaigning in panchayat elections. Comrade Debsharan Ghosh and Comrade Amar Ghosh were shot dead on the spot. The Congress party backed miscreants were behind the murderous attack in which two more CPI(M) workers including a candidate suffered serious injuries.

Left Front Sweeps Bypolls to Local Bodies

MAINTAINING its winning spree after the assembly elections in Tripura in February 2013, the Left Front swept the bypolls to the local bodies too, when the results were announced on June 22. As per the declared results for 91 seats of the zila parishads, panchayat samitis, gram panchayats, nagar panchayats and village committees, the Left Front has won in 87. The Congress and its ally, the pro-extremist Indigenous Nationalist Party of Tripura (INPT), could win in only three gram panchayat seats and one village committee seat.

THROUGH a letter addressed to A K Antony, defence minister in the government of India, on June 27, 2013, several national level organisations of women have demanded justice for the victims of Kunan Poshpora rape case in Jammu & Kashmir (J&K). The letter reminded the defence minister that the said rapes had much to do with the security forces of the central government. As it happened, some of the security personnel of 4th Rajputana Rifles went in search of militants to the village of Kunan Poshpora on February 23-24, 1991.

BSNL Workers to Donate for Disaster Victims

IN this connection, V A N Namboodiri, convener of the Forum of BSNL Unions & Associations, too has informed that, motivated by the said Forum, employees of the public sector Bharat Sanchar Nigam Limited (BSNL) have taken due note of the serious situation in Uttarakhand and the requirement of funds for rehabilitation of the affected people, and have unanimously decided to donate one say’s pay each to the Prime Minister’s Relief Fund. This will be deducted from the employees’ salaries for the month of June and remitted to the PM’s Relief Fund.
