Splendid Response in Kerala THERE has been a splendid response in Kerala to the appeal given by the CPI(M) Polit Bureau for collecting funds to help in the relief and rehabilitation efforts of the victims of the massive earthquake in Nepal. In the mass collection conducted by Party units throughout the state during the first few days of May, the Party collected Rs. 2,84,99,853. Given below is the district-wise break up of the collection in the state.  

THE Dalit Shoshan Mukti Manch in a statement issued on May 30 has condemned the anti-democratic move of the administration of the IIT Madras that has de-recognised the Ambedkar–Periyar Study Circle (APSC), a voluntary body of students that has been functioning on the IIT Madras campus. The dean of students has cancelled the recognition given to APSC for its criticism of the policies of the RSS and the BJP government. It clearly shows the intolerance of the BJP led government at the centre to any dissent and criticism of its policies.

THE central executive committee of the All India Democratic Women’s Association had given a call for a nationwide campaign against the BJP led NDA government’s moves to amend Section 498A, which provides protection to women from atrocities.Following this call, the Telangana state committee of AIDWA has decided to launch the campaign jointly with other women’s organisations including some NGOs.  It organised a round table meeting with 15 women’s organisations and NGOs, including some lawyers.  On April 21, it also organised a seminar against sexual remarks made by some political leaders and
