Remarks by President of Cuba, Raul Castro at the closing session of the 7th ACS Summit

The following are the remarks made by Raul Castro Ruz, president of the Council of States and Ministers of the Republic of Cuba, at the closing session of the 7th Summit of the Association of Caribbean States on June 4. FIRST of all we would like to convey our sympathy and solidarity to the family of the great boxing champion Muhammad Ali; to the American people and particularly to the African American community, whose rights he always defended; and, to the international sports community.

AIDWA Expresses Solidarity with Pakistan's Women

The All India Democratic Women’s Association(AIDWA) in a statement issued on June 3 has expressed solidarity with Pakistan’s women who reacted strongly to the statement made by Pakistan clergy “Beat wives lightly” as a violation of fundamental rights of women. AIDWA also condemned similar derogatory remarks by people holding public offices in India. AIDWA protested when the WCD minister made such remark in the context of marital rape not being applied to Indian families. It also protested against attack on Section 498A which criminalises domestic violence.

Baseless Allegations over Tripura School Text Books

LEADER of the opposition in the Kerala assembly, Ramesh Chennithala, had written to the CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury pointing out to certain media reports that alleged that role played by national leaders like Gandhiji etc were removed from the school text books in Tripura. Yechury wrote a reply to Chennithala on June 9, 2016 saying that he has enquired from the CPI(M) Tripura state committee and asked for a response to the media reports and to Chennithala's letter.

AIKS State Conference Held

THE 38th state conference of the All India Kisan Sabha, Punjab unit was held at Bhawanigarh (Sangrur) on June 5-6, 2016. A mass rally was organised on the occasion of this two-day state conference on June 7. Gurchetan Singh Bassi presided over the rally. Addressing the rally, Hannan Mollah, all India general secretary of the AIKS said that the agricultural crisis all over the country has put the peasantry in distress.

THE 2016 Assembly election ousted the Congress from power in Assam. The Tarun Gogoi-led dispensation was in power for three successive terms since 2001. Bringing an end to the 15-year Congress rule, the BJP, with the help of alliance partners AGP and BPF, came to power with comfortable majority. United Resistance Against Violent Attacks on CPI(M)1

His only ‘fault’ was that he was a polling agent of the CPI(M) in Bhagabanpur assembly constituency. Pradhan, along with his father was kidnapped by the TMC miscreants. Amit, 32 and father of a child, was mercilessly beaten to death.
