The Meaning of Neo-Liberal “Development”

NARENDRA Modi is “marketed” these days as the “development” man. The BJP’s electoral successes, such as they are, are attributed to the fact that everyone wants “development”, which the other political formations, caught up in appeasing this or that “sectional group”, are alleged to have been ignoring until now. And taking a leaf out of Modi’s book, others too have started talking about prioritising “development”.

VETERAN leader of the railway workers of India, former general secretary and president of the National Railway Mazdoor Union (NRMU), former vice president of the All India Railwaymen’s Federation (AIRF), one of the senior most members of the CPI(M) Maharashtra state committee and chairman of the Comrade B T Ranadive Memorial Trust, Comrade P R Menon passed away in Mumbai at the age of 81 on December 5, 2014.

WEST BENGAL: Interrogate CM Immediately, Demands CPI(M)

THE Central Bureau of Investigation has arrested transport minister  of  West Bengal and TMC leader Madan Mitra for “cheating and misappropriation of funds” in connection with the Saradha chit fund scam on December 12, 2014. He is the first minister of West Bengal since independence who has been arrested by the central agency for such huge corruption.Mamata Banerjee's government and Saradha chit fund company have become synonymous.

TELANGANA: Left Parties Launch Bus Jathas to Study Farmers’ Suicides

TEN Left and communist parties of Telangana have launched two bus jathas that traversed across the state of Telangana highlighting the need for immediate measures from the state government to prevent the spate of farmer suicides. Ever since the new state came into existence on June 2 this year, over 450 farmers took their lives in Telangana. The Left parties have declared that both private loans and the policies of the government are responsible for these suicides.

Peshawar Massacre Condemned

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on December 17.

THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its shock and horror at the massacre of 132 school children in Peshawar. Another 120 have been seriously injured. The Party denounces this unspeakable atrocity committed by the Tehrik-e-Taliban which shows their inhuman and depraved state of mind.

Withdraw the HRD Order

THE Human Resources Development ministry has taken yet another offensive and unjustifiable decision to ask CBSE and other government-run schools to observe “good governance day” on Christmas day, December 25. Already the Navodaya schools’ management have decided that the schools will remain open on December 24 and 25.

This is a crude interference in the schedule of schools which go on Christmas vacation from December 24 and is an assault on the religious right of the Christian community.

Hold HRD Minister Accountable For Untruthful Statements

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on December 16, 2014.

THE Polit Bureau demands accountability of the HRD minister Smriti Irani and strongly condemns the Modi government’s untruthful statements regarding the circular issued by her ministry on December 9 addressed not only to the Navodaya schools but also the Kendriya Vidyalaya schools.
