At a time when Omani-mediated talks were underway, the blue waters that once represented economic prosperity and connectivity have turned into a graveyard of metals and a stage for a high-stakes war. The escalating imperialist war on Iran, waged by the United States and Israel with regime change as their prime objective, has spread beyond West Asia, creeping into the Indian doorstep.
A series of events on the international stage has blown the Modi mythology of ‘India First’ and hyper-nationalistic rhetoric of the ruling BJP/RSS to smithereens. It has now become clear that the Modi government is bending over backwards to fulfil the demands of US on a whole range of policy issues, to the detriment of Indian people. WORLD oil prices have finally crossed $100 per barrel this week-end and have even touched $110. Considering the fact that they were around $69 per barrel before the beginning of imperialist aggression against Iran, this represents a very steep climb in just the course of a week. It has been caused less by any actual shortage arising from Iran’s closing of the Strait of Hormuz than by the anticipation of such a shortage arising.
THE idea of India was not forged in the fiction woven by Savarkar’s Hindutva ideology. It was shaped by the blood and sweat spilled in the national freedom struggle to dislodge British colonial rule. Obviously, the idea set out a different playbook which contributed to the foundational pillars of the Constitution solemnised on January 26, 1950.
