IT is often said that “privacy is not something that people feel, except in its absence”. Arun Jaitley realised it the hard way in 2013 when his telephone records where illegally obtained by the government. In an article titled “My call detail records and a citizen’s right to privacy”, Jaitley wrote: “every citizen in India has a right to privacy. His right to privacy is an inherent aspect of his personal liberty. Interference in the right to privacy is an interference in his personal liberty by a process which is not fair, just or reasonable. Every person has 'a right to be left alone'.

Syria: No “Cessation of Hostilities” So Far

WITH the Syrian national army on the verge of totally liberating Aleppo, the country's biggest commercial city and the jihadi forces in retreat from the other sectors, the US secretary of state, John Kerry and the Russian foreign minister, Sergey Lavrov, announced a “cessation of hostilities” agreement in the second week of February. The two officials made this announcement after a meeting in Munich with the other 15 members of the International Support Group for Syria.

TMC Synonymous with Corruption, Scams

WEST BENGAL is witnessing protests in many parts of the state against the recent instance of corruption involving the TMC leaders. Dr Surjyakanta Mishra, CPI(M) state secretary and leader of the opposition said that this is how public money is being looted in Bengal. The Election Commission should initiate appropriate steps to ensure that this ill gotten money is not used in the coming elections. If required, president's rule may also be imposed to stop such rampant loot and misuse of that money.

Dhaka Seminar on Role of Indian Left in The Liberation War of Bangladesh

THE liberation war of Bangladesh was absolutely a struggle of Bangladeshi people to get rid of the tyranny and get freedom from Pakistan. None had created Bangladesh from outside. The people of Bangladesh had wanted liberation because of deprivation, which was spontaneous, said Biman Basu, member of the Polit Bureau of CPI(M) while speaking as the chief guest in a seminar held at Dhaka on March 5 last.

ON the occasion on International Women's Day on March 8, Lok Sabha speaker Sumitra Mahajan allowed all women MPs to speak during both question and zero hours while Rajya Sabha gave its women MPs the first right to speak during zero hour.
