Brinda Karat Files Complaint against Cop for Communal Tweets

CPI(M) Polit Bureau member, Brinda Karat has lodged a police complaint against Nageswar Rao, an IPS officer who is Director General of Fire Services, Home Guards and Civil Defence under union home ministry, for his tweets inciting communal hatred.  She has written to union home minister Amit Shah on July 28, regarding the same and urged him to ensure the prosecution of the officer according to the law of the land.

AP: Campaign against Privatisation of Railways

PROTEST actions were conducted in Andhra Pradesh opposing the privatisation of Indian Railways. The protests were organised by CPI(M), CITU at some places and various unions of railway workers and employees at different levels. Protest demonstrations at some railway stations, holding placards and shouting slogans against government’s decision of privatisation and demanding a roll back, were held. Covid protocols were observed in these protests.Prajasakti Telugu daily published an eight page tabloid special supplement on railways.

AUGUST 5 marks the completion of a year since the infamous steps were taken in parliament to nullify Article 370 of the constitution that provided for special status to the state of Jammu & Kashmir and the damaging legislation which dismembered the state and created two union territories – Jammu & Kashmir and Ladakh.  At one stroke, the Hindutva rulers reneged on the promise made to the people of Kashmir at the time of the accession that J&K will be accorded autonomy, resulting in the special status provided in the constitution.

HIMACHAL PRADESH: Protest against Exorbitant Bills

SHIMLA Nagrik Sabha(SNS) held a strong protest demonstration outside the office of the municipal commissioner on July 16 against the exorbitant bills of water, garbage, electricity and property tax. Later a delegation met the commissioner and submitted a memorandum.The SNS argued that during the Corona period the state government has provided no financial assistance to the people and industry of the city. Nearly 70 per cent of the people have lost full or partial employment during this period. The hotel and restaurant industry in Shimla city has come to a complete standstill.

Rumble on Railway Tracks: Why Privatise Indian Railways?

THE media is agog with stories about rail privatisation. The ministry of railways has sought private players’ request for qualification for 151 trains running on 109 rail routes. Howrah-Delhi, Howrah-Chennai, Howrah-Mumbai and Delhi-Mumbai are among the routes to be privatised. The lifelines of Mumbai and Kolkata, the suburban trains, will also be given to private entities.

Red Flag Railway Privatisation

THE working class and the people of our country have red flagged the Modi led BJP government’s moves to privatise the railways in the country.Thousands of workers across the country participated in the demonstrations opposing the unbundling of Indian Railways into pieces and handing it over to the corporate – domestic and foreign. According to the reports, demonstrations were held in front of 717 major railway stations in 22 states across the country.

Devastating Floods in Assam: Central & State BJP Govts Failing to Provide Relief

CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on July 20THE third wave of floods in Assam, a more devastating one, has seriously affected the life and livelihood of more than 35 lakh people. Already 84 people have lost their lives. More than 3000 villages of 24 districts are damaged by land erosion by the mighty Brahmaputra, Barak and their tributaries. The flood has damaged 1.27 lakh hectares of cropped area and loss of innumerable livestock.

On the Formation of Linguistic States

Communists had played a pioneering role in the struggle for the formation of linguistic states. Apart from struggle for the formation of Vishalandhra, Aikya Kerala, many communist and left leaders played an important role in the Samyukta Maharashtra Movement (commonly known as the Samiti) that led the struggle for the formation of Maharashtra. On the other hand, RSS and its head, Golwalkar opposed the formation of linguistic states.
