AP: People’s Movements are the Key

THE two-month-long campaign ‘Praja Rakshana Bheri,’ undertaken by the CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh state committee, concluded with a huge rally and public meeting in Vijayawada on November 15. The mass rally commenced from BRTS road, with thousands of volunteers in red attire, accompanied by cultural squads presenting folk arts and fancy dress displays illustrating the plight of the people and mocking government policies. The rally continued for about half an hour, culminating at MB Stadium, where the public meeting was convened, that was presided over by Party state secretary V Srinivasa Rao.

Annual Air Pollution Festival

SO here we are once again, regular like the seasons, with Delhi and the entire Indi-Gangetic plains right down to West Bengal shrouded in a grey haze of pollutants as visible in photographs from space.  13 of the world’s 20 worst polluted cities or towns in the world are in India, including Delhi, satellite towns and other urban centres in northern and eastern India. This has now become such a hardy and recurrent annual feature that it may as well be declared yet another festival of which we already have so many in this country.

WB: DYFI Organises Insaf Yatra across the State

INSAF Yatra (march for justice), organised by the DYFI West Bengal state committee, began from Cooch Behar on November 3, its 44th Foundation Day. The key slogans of the march are: ‘Ensure the effective rights to work and education. Oust the corrupt and the rioters. Save the country, save the state’. With these aims in mind, DYFI leaders and workers will walk around 2,000 km from Cooch Behar in north Bengal to Kakdwip in the south over the next two months. The target is to touch a huge number of villages, cities and towns in the state.

How the War on Gaza Has Stalled the India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor (IMEC)

ON September 9, 2023, during the G20 meeting in New Delhi, the governments of seven countries and the European Union signed a memorandum of understanding to create an India-Middle East-Europe Economic Corridor. Only three of the countries (India, Saudi Arabia, and the United Arab Emirates or the UAE) would be directly part of this corridor, which was to begin in India, go through the Gulf, and terminate in Greece.
