AN extended session of the CPI(M) West Bengal state committee was held from November 3-5 at Anil Biswas Bhavan, office of the Party's Howrah district committee. The meeting was organised to evaluate strengths and weaknesses and formulate organisational strategies for the upcoming Lok Sabha elections in the following year.
THE All India Convention of Women Construction Workers was successfully held on November 6, 2023 at Comrade Anju Chatterjee Nagar and Comrade Maithili Sivaraman Manch, Kanyakumari in Tamil Nadu. The convention resolved to reorient the organisation among women construction workers and to intensify the struggles to unleash more militant actions to achieve their just demands.The convention started with flag hoisting. J Lordu Ruby, vice- president of the Construction Workers Federation of India, hoisted the Red flag, and delegates and guests paid floral tributes to the martyr’s column.
The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has issued the following statement on November 7 IT is reported that the Israeli Authorities, during the genocidal attack on Palestine resulting in the death of several thousand Palestinian people, including women and children, has issued orders for Palestinian workers employed in various sectors within Israel to leave the country. In response to this situation, the Israeli Builders’ Association has taken steps to request India to send 50,000 to 1,00,000 workers, particularly the construction workers, to work in Israel.

THE 57th Congress of the Communist Party of Britain (CPB) was held in Croydon, London on November 4-5, 2023. The Congress was held with the slogan ‘For a United Front against Monopoly Capitalism and War’. The CPB witnessed a significant growth in its membership with the influx of a large number of youth into its ranks. The wide ranging trade union struggles that were held in this period, where the communists played a significant role is one of the major factors that led to the growth of the CPB.
RECENTLY, the IT billionaire R N Narayana Murthy, co-founder of Infosys, suggested a 70-hour working week and urged Indian youth to embrace a shift in India's work culture to expedite development. This isn't the first time that this prominent figure, now in his seventies, has advocated extending working hours beyond the globally accepted labour standards. In 2020, he had previously proposed a 60-hour working week.
