The Modi government’s stand on the US-Israel aggression on Iran has starkly exposed the heart of the foreign policy it has been pursuing for the past nearly 12 years. There is no semblance of an independent foreign policy or strategic autonomy left. Instead, what is in place is a foreign policy aligned to the strategic interests of the United States, in other words, the foreign policy of a subordinate ally.

Election Commission of India has announced the election schedule for the five Assemblies of Kerala, West Bengal, Tamil Nadu, Assam and Puducherry. Normally, this would be a routine exercise. But the extraordinary backdrop makes it unprecedented. The announcement was made when the two houses of Parliament are going to discuss the impeachment motion against the Chief Election Commissioner, Gyanesh Kumar. Perhaps, for the first time, an impeachment motion against the incumbent CEC is being discussed by the Parliament.

The Left Front has released its list of candidates for the election to the Tripura Tribal Areas Autonomous District Council (TTAADC) and the by-election to the Dharmanagar Assembly constituency even before the announcement of the poll schedule. The list was announced at a press conference held at Dasharath Deb Smriti Bhavan by Manik Dey, convenor of the Tripura Left Front Committee, on March 9.
