Mainpuri Attack: Take Firm Action

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on October 10.

THE violence in Mainpuri in Uttar Pradesh once again highlights how the issue of cow slaughter is being utilised to target the minority community. A mob attacked four men who were accused of killing a cow, two of whom are injured and in a critical condition. Some shops belonging to Muslims were set on fire. The Polit Bureau condemns these attacks.

Oppose Malabar Exercises

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on October 12.THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its strong opposition to the Malabar joint naval exercises going to be conducted from the day after tomorrow, October 14 to 21.Begun in 1992 as joint naval exercises between the Indian and US navies and institutionalised with the Indo-US defence framework agreement signed in 2005, the exercises are notable this year, for the participation of the Japanese navy.

Keep Education out of WTO/GATS

BJP-PDP Govt: Promises & the Delivery

THE campaigning agenda of the BJP and the PDP during the recent assembly elections in Jammu and Kashmir was diametrically opposed to each other. While the BJP polarised the situation that benefited it in Jammu province by bagging 25 seats; PDP got 28 seats in Kashmir province owing to its slogan of self rule and claims to resist “Modi Wave”.

Speaker’s Observations Regrettable

THE observations of the speaker of J&K legislative assembly vis-à-vis private members bills submitted on the beef ban are regrettable. In a statement issued on October 4, Mohammad Yousuf Tarigami, CPI(M) leader and MLA Kulgam, said that it was not expected from the speaker to disrespect his constitutional mandate of neutrality and virtually act as spokesperson of the government.

The remarks of the speaker indicate that the government has shelved the much needed debate on the bills related to beef ban.

TAMIL NADU: Widening Economic Divide Deepens Caste Oppression, says Yechury

CPI(M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury on September 29 said that the widening economic divide was deepening caste oppression and caste-based attacks against dalits and other backward classes.
Addressing a special conference against honour killings in Tamil Nadu at Cuddalore, organised by the district committee of the CPI(M), Yechury said the situation was becoming worse for socially oppressed sections like dalits and OBCs with caste atrocities and murders in the name of honour, on the rise.
