The Twentieth Congress of CPC

THE 20th Congress of the Communist Party of China (CPC) that was held from October 16-22, concluded successfully on October 22. Given the important position of China in the world economy, the Congress was eagerly watched. In 2021, China's gross domestic product reached 17.7 trillion US dollars, accounting for 18.5 per cent of the world's total. From 2013 to 2021, it grew at an average annual rate of 6.6 per cent, beating the global average of 2.6 per cent.

Maha: CPI(M)’s Impressive Victories in Gram Panchayat Elections

THE CPI(M) captured 93 posts of the sarpanch (gram panchayat president) by direct election in the recently concluded round of gram panchayat (village panchayat) elections in the state. The Party has done quite well, especially in its traditional adivasi strongholds of Nashik and Thane-Palghar districts. This round of gram panchayat elections was not state wide, since only 1,165 gram panchayats in the state went to the polls.

The Kerala governor, Arif Mohammad Khan, has asked Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan to remove Finance Minister K N Balagopal, on the grounds that he made a speech that was “seditious”. All India Apple Farmers Day Observed

FOLLOWING the call given by the Apple Farmers’ Federation of India (AFFI) to observe October 21 as ‘National Apple Day’, apple growers in Himachal Pradesh and Jammu & Kashmir expressed their discontentment with the union and state governments for taking anti-farmer policy steps that have hit the apple economy hard in both the regions, which account for more than 95 per cent of India’s total apple production. 

Competitive Commission of India fines Google

THE Competition Commission of India (CCI) has recently fined Google in two separate rulings. In the first ruling, the CCI imposed a fine of Rs 1,337.76 crores on Google for "abusing its dominant position in multiple markets in the Android Mobile device ecosystem". In the second ruling, the CCI imposed a fine of Rs 936.44 crores on Google for "for abusing its dominant position with respect to its Play Store policies".

IMCWP Meeting Held for the First Time in Cuba

THE 22nd International Meeting of Communist and Workers' Parties (IMCWP) held from October 27-29 at the Havana Convention Palace was attended by delegates from 65 countries from all the continents. ‘United we are stronger’ is the slogan of the event in which representatives of 82 political forces and 31 delegations headed by their presidents or general secretaries participated. The theme of the IMCWP is ‘Solidarity with Cuba and all the struggling peoples.
