Modi Govt Opened Up New Avenues For Attacks on Dalits, says Yechury

Below are the edited excerpts of CPI(M) general secretary and MP Sitaram Yechury’s speech in Rajya Sabha during a short-duration discussion on ‘recent incidents of atrocities on Dalits in various parts of the country’ on July 21. The discussion was held following reports that some dalit youths, who were skinning a dead cow, were beaten up by cow vigilantes in Gujarat’s Una town.THIS discussion is being held today. There was immediate provocation. Then, the kinds of words that have been used against Mayawati, we all disapprove that.

State-Level Study Class for Students

A Four day state-level study class was successfully organised by the SFI Maharashtra state committee at CITU Bhavan, Nashik last month. 194 delegates from 15 districts, among whom 42 were girls, attended the class.
The class was inaugurated by the CITU state general secretary Dr D L Karad by paying homage to Shaheed Bhagat Singh. After the inauguration he took a session on “Today’s Student, Tomorrow’s Worker”. In the second session of the day, Prof Milind Wagh took a session on “Commercialisation of Education”. This session was followed by cultural activities.

DELHI: Dharna against Brutal Repression in Kashmir

THE Students’ Federation of India, Delhi state committee, along with other organisations including Jana Sanskriti, JMS, DSMM, DYFI, JLS and JNM, organised a dharna against the continuing state repression of the Kashmiri civilians on July 25. Nearly 50 persons have been killed and thousands injured in the brutal repression of the protest demonstrations across the Kashmir valley, following the murder of terrorist Burhan Wani in an encounter. The shameful use of pellet guns against children and women has led to a situation of extreme human rights violation.

Road Transport Workers Co-ordination Committee Calls for Making Success Sept 2 General Strike

THE Co-ordination Committee meeting of the Road Transport Workers Federations and Unions was held on July 27 at AITUC office in New Delhi.

The meeting discussed the serious developments taking place in the road transport sector. It unanimously adopted a declaration calling upon the road transport workers in the country to participate in the September 2 All India General Strike.

Immediately Restore Road Connectivity in Tripura

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on July 23
THE Polit Bureau of the CPI(M) expresses its serious concern at the disruption caused on the main arterial roadway to Tripura (formerly known as NH-44). This has led to a severe disruption in the supply of essential commodities to the people of Tripura. Reports indicate that the road access to Tripura would be disrupted for at least three months, if not longer.

Managing the Corporate-Communal Alliance

THE corporate-communal alliance that came to power after the 2014 elections needs careful management by its promoters, because within each of the partners of the alliance there are elements that are not altogether comfortable with the other.Within the Hindutva fold there are some trade unions, and outfits like the Swadeshi Jagaran Manch which experience a degree of disquiet over the fact that their parivar is promoting a corporate agenda. Likewise within the corporate fold, there are some honchos who find communalism difficult to swallow.

Brinda Karat Calls for Continuing Struggle against Illegal Land Acquisition
