Telangana: Struggle for Houses and House Sites Intensifies

THE struggle for houses and house sites for the poor is expanding and intensifying in Telangana since it began nine months ago in Jakkaloddi of Warangal Municipal Corporation. The struggle has spread to 23 districts now under the leadership of the Telangana Platform of Mass Organisations for Struggle. It is further expanding to some more districts. As many as 28,000 poor families have built huts in 47 centres on government lands, surplus lands and lands of outdated irrigation water tanks.

Journalists Bodies Slam BBC Office IT ‘Searches’ As Ominous

Karnataka Elections: Difficult Road for BJP

Finance Minister’s Misleading Statement

FINANCE Minister Nirmala Sitharaman made a misleading statement the other day that is not expected from a responsible member of the union cabinet. Talking about the resource transfer to the states in the recent budget, she said that the magnitude of transfer had been raised “sharply” (The Hindu February 11). Now, this statement, while creating the impression that the centre has been very “generous’’, gives absolutely no figures on any actual increase in transfer from the centre that would support the claim.

Tripura Assembly Elections: CPI(M) Delegation Meets ECI
