THE national convention against Privatisation of electricity and railways organised by the Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has decided to go for protracted campaign and struggles engaging common consumers/commuters/ people to put up an effective resistance to the privatisation spree of the ruling dispensation, which is a part of its neoliberal agenda.
AFTER a textbook launch on July 14, Chandrayaan-3 is orbiting the earth in a highly elliptical orbit and, at the time of going to press, has executed three out of five orbit-raising burns as per schedule. As of now, the spacecraft is 228 km from Earth at its nearest and 51,400 km from Earth at its farthest. Soon a final burn will make it leap forward till it is captured by the moon’s gravity and starts elliptical orbits around it. There it will execute similar maneuvers in reverse to gradually lower its lunar orbit till it stabilises in a circular 100 km orbit above the moon’s surface.

THE CPI(M) Andhra Pradesh committee organised 'Polavaram Poru Keka', a 380 km foot march (padayatra), to highlight the demands of the Polavaram Project displaced people. Led by Party state secretary V Srinivasarao, the march began on June 20 at Nellipaka in Alluri Sitarama Raju (ASR) district and covered 13 mandals in four districts.
THE All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), in a statement issued on July 17, has expressed deep concern about the removal of anaemia from the survey indicators of NFHS- 6 by the BJP government.The previous NFHS -5 survey had revealed that over 57 per cent of women and over 67 per cent of children suffer from anaemia in our country. Prevalence of anaemia to such an extent cannot be dismissed as a mild problem or an isolated occurrence. Medical experts have pointed out that it is a major contributor to maternal and child mortality.
