In Solidarity with Venezuela

THE Venezuela Solidarity Committee denounces the ongoing attempts to destabilise the Bolivarian government of Venezuela. Right-wing opposition groups, supported by the rich oligarchs are openly inciting violence against the democratically elected government. The hand of the US is clearly visible in these events, as evidence emerged that some of the diplomatic officials stationed in the US embassy were in regular contact with the perpetrators of the opposition sponsored violence.

Cuba Condemns Attempted Coup in Venezuela

THE Republic of Cuba’s government strongly condemns the ongoing attempts to carry out a coup d’état against the constitutional government of the Bolivarian Republic of Venezuela and the violent incidents organised by fascist groups which have caused deaths, dozens of injuries, attacks on public institutions, the burning of vehicles and destruction – as denounced before the world by President Nicolás Maduro Moros.

Humanitarian Aid for Syria

THE government of Kuwait hosted the Second International Humanitarian Pledging Conference on Syria in the third week of January just before the warring sides in civil conflict resumed peace talks in Geneva. Iran was one of the 69 governments and 24 international organizations that participated in the successful conference. The conference was presided over by the UN Secretary General Ban ki-Moon. India was represented by the Minister of State for External Affairs, E Ahamed.

Poverty and Dispossession in Gujarat Model of Development

AS the BJP and its prime ministerial candidate intensify their aggressive election campaign, questions have begun to be raised about the inclusive character of the ‘Gujarat Model of Development.’ Modi has often asserted that his economics and model of development has benefited all. But this claim is based on a manipulation of data which hide the actually rising inequalities within the state. This is seen in the debate that has erupted on the poverty line within the state.

“Post Bifurcation also People’s Struggles will Continue”

Speaking to reporters after the bill was passed on 18th February, the CPI(M) leader pointed out that the creation of separate state of Telangana has raised immense hopes among the people of that region while at the same time creating many apprehensions among people of Seemandhra region. The very same ruling classes that have failed to comprehensively develop the united state are set to rule in both the states. They would be implementing the same neo-liberal, World Bank-dictated policies. These policies will create new inequalities in both the states. People’s problems will not be solved.
