TIREDNESS WITH MARXISM

MUCH is written these days about how “the youth” is “tired” of the “rigid ideological positions” of the Left, how Marxism itself, notwithstanding its immense appeal in the past, has ceased to be attractive to today’s “youth”, indeed how “grand narratives” of all kinds, of which Marxism of course is the leading example, have become passé.

Appeal Chundur Verdict

The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has issued the following statement on April 24, 2014.
IT is unfortunate that the Andhra Pradesh High Court, in a judgement, has acquitted 21 persons sentenced to life imprisonment in the infamous Chundur case involving the massacre of dalits in 1991.
It is shocking that 23 years after the massacre, justice has not been rendered. It is imperative that the state government immediately lodge an appeal in the Supreme Court against the High Court verdict.

Lok Sabha Poll Campaign in West Bengal

THE election campaign for the 16th Lok Sabha poll, which has already entered into a very intensive phase in all the districts of West Bengal, is a unique experience in our state for more than one reason. This time the Lok Sabha election is going to be held in the state in the backdrop of nearly three years of TMC autocracy. The bitter experiences of the violence-marred panchayat and municipal elections are still fresh in the minds of the people.

Chavez Remembered in Kolkata

ON April 7, the Friends of Latin America, India, organised a seminar, in collaboration with Centre of Marxian Studies, at Jadavpur University in Kolkata to commemorate the former Venezuelan president, Hugo Rafael Chavez Frias, the great Bolivarian socialist leader whose commitment to social justice and a better deal for the poorer classes had pitted him against the neo-liberal imperialist powers, on his first death anniversary. “Commandant Hugo Chavez and Beyond” was the topic of deliberations at the seminar.
