THE parliamentary party group of the CPI(M), consisting of nine members of the Rajya Sabha, nine members of the Lok Sabha and two CPI(M) supported independents of the Left and Democratic Front in Kerala, met on June 9 and decided about the group’s office bearers in both the houses.

AIDWA Flay BJP Minister’s Remarks on Rape

IN a statement issued from New Delhi on June 6, the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA) strongly condemned the remark reportedly made by the home minister of Madhya Pradesh, Babulal Gaur, a day before. It was reported that on June 5 the minister had said “rape is a social crime which depends on the man and the woman; it is sometimes right and sometimes wrong;” and that “it is not possible for any government to ensure that rape is not committed.”

Himachal Tragedy: Punish Guilty

THE Himachal Pradesh state secretariat of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) has expressed deep grief over the washing away of over 25 people including 6 girls in Beas river in Mandi district. The CPI(M) has demanded a high level inquiry and stern action against the guilty who allowed the water to spill over from Largi Dam and also against the Himachal Pradesh State Load Dispatch Centre (SLDC).

CPI(M) Flays Communal Acts

THE Haryana state unit of the CPI(M) has condemned in strong words the incidents of communal violence perpetrated on June 8 in Taoru town of Mewat district, following a road accident in which a youth was killed.

CPI(M) Pledge on Formation of Telangana

The CPI(M) Telangana state committee gave a call to all its members to undertake the following pledge on the occasion of formation of Telangana state on 2 June. Thousands of Party members across the ten districts of the state undertook this pledge in meetings organised by the Party. In Hyderabad, the meeting was addressed by CPI(M) Polit Bureau member B V Raghavulu, CPI(M) Telangana state secretary Thammineni Veerabhadram and others.

SFI to Organise Strike in Schools on RTE Issue

ON June 11, hundreds of students across Tamilnadu staged protest actions in front of district educational offices demanding proper implementation of the Right to Education Act (RTE Act) in the state. The Students Federation of India organised these actions.
While the academic year 2014-15 has started, one sees the utter commercialisation of education making its way in the state without any hurdles. This year, private players in the field of school education in particular openly challenged the constitution of India which ensures the right to education.

Domestic Worker’s Struggle for Recognition

MORE than 200 representatives of the Domestic Workers Association, led by the Janvadi Mahila Samiti (JMS), an affiliate of the All India Democratic Women’s Association (AIDWA), held a convention in Rai Umanath Hall of Lucknow, Uttar Pradesh, on June 2, 2014. Amidst the slogans of ‘We Shall Fight, We Shall Win,’ these women demanded that they and their rights as workers must be recognised. These women workers represented 12 districts of the state.

Book on CPI(M) Navratnas Released

ON June 7, CPI(M) general secretary Prakash Karat released the book Founders of the CPI(M) by handing over a copy to fellow Polit Bureau member K Varadharajan. The release function took place during the second half of the Central Committee meeting in New Delhi on the day. S Ramachandran Pillai was present on the dais.
