BSNLEU Demands Disbursement of August Salary

BSNL Employees Union has issued the following statement on September 2THE BSNL management has once again failed to disburse salary to its employees for the month of August 2019. It is regrettable to note that the management is not even able to tell the employees, as to when this salary disbursement will take place. This is the third time in this year, that the BSNL management is unable to disburse salary to its employees on time.

Amazon Fires, White Nationalism and the Logic of Capital

THE Amazon fires with Brazil at its epicentre, have become worldwide news. Explaining the fires recently, Douglas Morton, chief of the Biospheric Sciences Laboratory at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center said that August 2019 stands out as a month with a far higher number of fires than any preceding year since 2010. This is similar to what the Brazil’s National Institute for Space Research (INPE) had reported earlier.

AMAZON Rain Forest has been burning at a record rate since August 2019. The raging forest fire has not only been continuing but also expanding.  The core of the fire ball is in Brazil, encompassing the area of Equator and Peru. Brazil has at last declared a state of emergency because of this devastating fire in the region.

MAHARASHTRA: AIDWA Thane-Palghar District Convention

TO prepare for the 12th AIDWA national conference in Mumbai from December 27-30, 2019, AIDWA district conventions were successfully held in 15 districts of Maharashtra in the months of June and July. They had together mobilised over 2000 women. The last district convention of Thane-Palghar was held on August 23, 2019 at the Comrade Godavari Shamrao Parulekar Bhawan at Talasari in Palghar district. Over 3,000 women from eight tehsils attended. The huge hall was completely jam-packed with women.

Kashmir: End the Clampdown

A MONTH has elapsed since the security clampdown on Jammu & Kashmir was imposed on August 5.  For 30 days, the people of Kashmir have been deprived of all basic rights. They have been confined to their houses. There is no communication with mobile phone networks, landlines and internet connection closed down; they have no right of movement with barricades being put up in main roads and highways; there is no public transport. Government offices have not been functioning as employees are unable to attend their duties.

CPI(M) Releases Booklet on Kashmir

CPI (M) general secretary Sitaram Yechury and Polit Bureau member Brinda Karat released a booklet prepared by the Party on Kashmir, titled ‘Fraud on Constitution: Kashmir Betrayed’. The booklet was released at a press conference held on August 22. It traces the history of Jammu and Kashmir and its accession to Indian Union. The booklet dispels the misinformation campaign and obfuscation of facts by the government on Jammu and Kashmir. 

Urban flooding

MUCH awaited monsoons in the country may be deficient in rainfall, but flooding even with scant rainfall has become a common phenomenon. The cities happens to be the worst resilient with the kind of infrastructure that has been constructed over the years. This leads to loss of lives and property. Just in three states, Maharashtra, Kerala and Karnataka, 227 people have died and the number may be higher as there are a large number of missing persons.
