The Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly disapproves the manner in which the BJP and the Hindutva communal forces are misusing the question of prioritising ‘Vande Mataram’ with all the six stanzas as legislated by the Parliament.
On behalf of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), M. A. Baby, General Secretary, has submitted a Memo on Census 2027, to the Registrar General of India and Census Commissioner on August 24, 2026. We are herewith releasing the text of the Memo for publication.
Census 2027 is underway now. While in some places the first phase of house listing has just begun, in the snow bound areas the second phase with the option of self-enumeration has commenced.
NATIONAL Space Day was observed in India on 23 August commemorating the historic successful soft landing of Chandrayaan-3 on the south polar region of the Moon. The Moon landing in 2023, the fourth ever by any nation, marked a big leap in India’s space journey.
THE nature of Indian democracy was established based on principles which were tempered in the course of the freedom struggle. Hence, it was not a coincidence that the Constitution was established after a protracted debate in the Constituent Assembly for almost three years. This was the institutionalised quintessence of values and ideas which evolved while adopting and customising some of the universal principles experienced and practiced by democracies elsewhere in the world.
Acting upon the call of the party’s 24th Congress to educate and re-educate party members, the Madhya Pradesh State Committee organized a four-day state-level training camp in Bhopal from August 18 to August 21. Participants included members of the State Committee, special and permanent invitees, and members of state-level sub-committees and fractions. The State Committee dedicated this class to the memory of the party’s former General Secretary, Comrade Sitaram Yechury.
At the call of the 5,000-strong National Convention of Workers and Farmers organised jointly by the Central Trade Unions (CTU) and the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) on July 29, 2026, and the 1,200-strong SKM National Convention held a day earlier on July 28, both in Delhi, lakhs of workers and peasants across the country enthusiastically participated in the massive struggle on August 10, 2026, against the disastrous policies of the Modi-led RSS-BJP government. These actions commemorated the ‘Quit India’ movement.
A recent report by the Reporters’ Collective (RC) drew widespread public attention to anomalies in faculty recruitment in Jawaharlal Nehru University, considered one of India’s best public universities, especially for postgraduate studies and research. The RC expose detailed seven instances where the recruitment process was marked by gross and deliberate violation of the rules. The real story, however, is neither limited to these seven cases, nor about them specifically.

THERE is a zing in the air. There is no denying that a changed mood is very much palpable. The silence that concealed the growing disquiet and restlessness has ultimately cracked. There can be no doubt that the almost forty day long struggle of the young people against the brazen irregularities in the conduct of centralised admission tests have acted as a trigger for this. In the process, the generational awakening has led to the meltdown of fear and the explosion of collective courage.
