A six-member delegation of the Communist Party of China (CPC), led by Sun Qingyun, vice-secretary of the CPC Shanxi province visited the headquarters of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) on December 6 and had discussions with the leadership. Sun Qingyun explained about the current developments in China and also the decisions of the 3rd Plenary of the 18th CPC Central Committee. He stated that the Chinese economy was also impacted by the world economic crisis and is now again on the path of growth. He expressed confidence that the economy will grow by 7.8 percent this year. According to him, a growth of 7 percent is needed for CPC to achieve its target of transforming China into a moderately prosperous society by 2020. Qingyun also stated that the CPC is not confining itself to ensure a sustained 'growth in GDP' but is now concerned about coordinated social and economic development that would convert China into a harmonious society. The CPC, he also stated, is concerned to ensure that the fruits of development reach all sections and all regions of China and ensure that all the people will benefit from it. Erasing inequalities is also one of the major challenges that the CPC has decided to address urgently. Qingyun also explained about the 'mass line campaign' launched by the CPC to ensure that the Party retains its contacts with the people of the country and also learn from them. This, according to him, will help the CPC eliminate four evils – bureaucratism, corruption, hedonism and extravagance – and enhance the governing capability of the Party. Qingyun thanked the CPI(M) for its solidarity with the CPC and the people of China. He also expressed his desire to further increase the Party-to-Party relations between the two parties. Sitaram Yechury, Polit Bureau member and Head, International Department of the CPI(M) thanked Sun Qingyun for his visit to the headquarters of the Party and also shared his views on developing the friendship between the people of two countries and also strengthening the relations between the two parties. Hari Singh Kang, member of the Central Secretariat, CPI(M) and R Arun Kumar, member of the International Department were also present in the discussions.
