CITU to Observe Demands Day on July 10

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU), in a statement issued on June 19, has called upon the working class across India to unite and prepare for a nationwide Demands Day on July 10, 2024. This decision was taken during the CITU secretariat meeting held on June 17-18, 2024, in Delhi, where the current political and economic situation post the 18th Lok Sabha elections was discussed.In the recent elections, the BJP lost its absolute majority from the 2014 and 2019 elections and now leads the NDA government with the support of allies, primarily the TDP and JD(U).

CWFI Condoles the Tragic Death of Indian Construction Workers Killed in Kuwait

THE Construction Workers Federation of India (CWFI), in a statement issued on June 13, has deeply condoled the tragic death of 42 Indian migrant workers, mostly construction workers, who were killed in a devastating blaze which broke out in a sixth story building in the Mangaf area, south of Kuwait City on June 12, 2024.According to media reports, over a dozen workers were injured. Most of the deaths were due to smoke inhalation.

CITU Denounces Exemption of IT & ITES Industries From Industrial Establishments (Standing Orders) Act

THE Karnataka state government has issued a notification extending the exemption for IT, ITES, Startups, Animation, Gaming, Computer Graphics, Telecom, BPO, KPO, and other knowledge-based industries from the Industrial & Establishment (Standing Orders) Act of 1946 for the next five years. This decision, despite strong opposition from trade unions and employees, continues a policy that has been in place for the past 25 years.The Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has strongly condemned this move and has called on the state government to revoke the order immediately.

CITU Writes to Health Minister on Unavailability of TB Drugs

IN a letter addressed to the Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, on April 27, Tapan Sen, CITU general secretary, highlighted a concerning issue regarding the availability of TB drugs in medical and treatment centers across various states. He emphasized receiving alarming reports from workers and their families, particularly in the vast unorganised sector, regarding the unavailability of TB medications.

THE All India Federation of Anganwadi Workers and Helpers (AIFAWH), in a statement issued on March 13, has strongly condemned the atrocious detention of Usharani, president, AIFAWH and secretary CITU by Assam police at Guwahati Airport. She was on her way to participate in the ongoing struggle of anganwadi workers and helpers in Assam.Anganwadi workers and helpers in Assam have been on strike since February 13, 2024, demanding an increase in wages and addressing other pertinent issues.
