CITU All India Working Committee Calls for Intensifying Campaign on Sept 2 Strike

‘INTENSIFY the campaign for an unprecedented countrywide strike on September 2; consolidate the organisation and march forward towards the 15th conference’ were the calls given by the working committee of CITU which met in Nasik from July 14-16, 2016. The meeting was attended by members and invitees from all over the country. A K Padmanabhan, president, CITU hoisted the red flag of CITU to mark the beginning of the meeting and presided over its sessions.

Country-wide Strike of Bank Employees to Protect Public Sector Banks on July 29

UNITED Forum of Bank Unions, an umbrella organisation of nine unions of workmen and officers in the banking industry has given a call for a day’s strike on July 29, 2016 opposing the moves of the government towards privatisation and merger of public sector banks and proposed anti-labour amendments to labour laws and demanding stringent action against willful defaulters towards recovery of non-performing assets.

Road Safety Bill Aims at Privatisation of Transport Sector

The All India Road Transport Workers’ Federation has issued the following statement on June 29.THE Draft Road Transport and Safety Bill 2015 aims to privatise the Core Motor Transport Sector and to hand over the entire sector to corporates. It is surprising to note that some MPs had written asking for the placing of the Bill in parliament in the forthcoming monsoon session. The Bill aims at replacement the existing Motor Vehicle Act rendering lakhs of workers jobless in the name of road safety. The Bill is anti-people and anti-worker.

Central Govt Employees to go On Indefinite Strike from July 11

A MASSIVE parliament march and rally of about 20,000 central government employees was held at Jantar Mantar in New Delhi on June 24, 2016. The rally was organised by National Joint Council of Action (NJCA) of central government employees comprising railways, defence, confederation and postal organisations demanding modification in the recommendations of Seventh Central Pay Commission including minimum wage and fitment formula.

CITU Condemns Slapping of ESMA on Striking Haryana Employees

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has condemned the imposition of the draconian Essential Services Maintenance Act (ESMA) on the employees of the Haryana State Electricity Board by the BJP-led government.CITU has extended total support to the employees who have been compelled to go on a two days’ strike against the decision of the state government to privatise 23 electricity distribution subdivisions with the highest revenue potential.

Himachal Pradesh: Workers Protest against Contractors-Govt Nexus

CITU-affiliated workers at the under-construction 450-MW Shong Thong-Karchham hydroelectric project on Sutlej river have been on strike for the last three months over several demands, including payment of wages. Himachal Pradesh Power Corporation Ltd. (HPPCL) is constructing this power project through Patel Engineering Ltd., which has further sublet works to more than 20 local contractors.

CITU Condemns Retrograde Move to Sell-out CPSEs

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions (CITU) has condemned the retrograde move by the Modi government to fast-track sale of central public sector enterprises (CPSEs) with huge asset base to private hands. With this dubious intent, the NITI Ayog has been made to submit a list of CPSEs to the Prime Minister’s Office recommending fast-track sale of these companies on various pretext.

CITU Calls for Extensive Campaign to Make Sept 2 Strike a Success

THE Centre of Indian Trade Unions has called upon all state committees, federations and unions to intensify the campaign to make the September 2 general strike against the anti-people and anti-worker policies of the Narendra Modi government successful. CITU, in its national secretariat meeting held on June 13-14 in New Delhi, reviewed the preparatory campaign activities being undertaken in the states and industries in the run-up to the strike.

CITU Condemns Govt Move to Induct Pvt Sector Managements in Central PSUs

A FEW days back, the Narendra Modi government has amended the Public Sector Recruitment Rules retrospectively providing for appointment of candidates from the private sector, to very senior management positions in the central public sector undertakings and also in the PESB (Public Sector Enterprise Selection Board). Obviously, the profit-making blue chip PSUs are the target of the Modi government in this regard. The government's argument is that this will help CPSUs in getting ‘capable and efficient’ hands from the private sector.
