THE BJP has already started its campaign for the 2024 General Election with PM Modi making a "guarantee" in healthcare. However, what is happening is a gradual transformation of the healthcare system into a 'commodity' and its corporatisation.India adopted the Alma Atta Declaration of 1978, aiming for "Health for All by 2000 AD" through a free universal public healthcare system.

THE 18th General Election in 2024 is a challenge before all secular democratic forces in the country, and at the same time an opportunity to dislodge the nightmarish regime of violence, fear, hunger and unemployment unleashed by the BJP-RSS government in the last ten years.

ONE of the biggest and most popular guarantees given by Modi a decade ago, during the run-up to the 2014 Lok Sabha elections, was that if elected, his government would ensure two  crore jobs will be created every year. Large sections of people believed in this and helped in making him prime minister. But this has also been one of the biggest betrayals of Modi and his government.

THE ten years of Modi led BJP government saw a relentless attack on the livelihood and working conditions of the workers. The hard won rights of the workers are sought to be curtailed to facilitate their unbridled exploitation by the big corporates.The BJP government has subsumed twenty nine existing labour laws into four labour codes. It is being propagated that these would universalise minimum wage, expand social security coverage and improve working environment.

THE last ten years of the Modi government have seen an unprecedented attack on democracy and democratic rights in the country.  If this trend continues, India will remain only a formal democracy and become a full-fledged authoritarian State. PARLIAMENTARY DEMOCRACY UNDER SIEGEThe constitution provides for a parliamentary democratic system.  Under this system, the executive (the government) is answerable to parliament. It is parliament legislations which become the law. However, under the BJP rule, parliament has been systematically downgraded.
