Haryana: Mid-day Meal Workers Hold Big Rally

A protest rally, attended by thousands of mid-day meal workers from Haryana, took place on January 11 in Karnal. The rally was organised by the Mid Day Meal Workers Union Haryana (CITU).  The main demands were: increase in salaries, retirement benefits, and the assurance of permanent employment.The workers expressed anger at the government exploiting their hard work. Approximately 30,000 mid-day meal workers in the state are dedicated to preparing food for school children. However, they neither receive the recognition of workers nor the mandated minimum wages.

UP: Campaign Continues against Electricity Privatisation and Smart Meters

THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) Uttar Pradesh committee has initiated a statewide campaign addressing regional issues, particularly focusing on electricity-related concerns, including the privatisation of electricity. The campaign, which commenced in early December, is set to continue throughout January 2024, concluding on February 5 with the submission of a demand letter to the chief minister of UP through dharnas/demonstrations at the offices of executive officers of the relevant electrical corporations across all districts.
