AIKS has issued the following condolence message on August 24, 2026:

The All India Kisan Sabha expresses its profound grief at the passing away of Comrade Sarampally Malla Reddy, veteran peasant leader, former Vice President of AIKS and a leading figure of the Rythu Sangham of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana for more than five decades.

Born on 25 August 1939, Comrade Malla Reddy dedicated his entire life to the cause of the working people and the peasantry. He became a full-time activist in 1973 and played a pioneering role in building the peasant movement in the Narsampet region and across Warangal and the undivided Andhra Pradesh. He was associated with the Rythu Sangham for decades, serving in various responsibilities at the divisional, district and state levels, and later as its State President and State Secretary. He served as the Vice President of AIKS from 2003 to 2022.

Comrade Malla Reddy was known for his deep understanding of agriculture and the problems of the peasantry and was often described as a walking encyclopaedia on agriculture. His vast knowledge and experience, however, were always placed at the service of the movement. He possessed the ability to study the concrete situation concretely and armed himself with sharp analysis to guide struggles and organisational work. His interventions were marked by clarity, political commitment and a firm understanding of the class character of agrarian policies. His fight against monopolies especially Monsanto charging exorbitant rates for BT cotton seeds (which led to the Monopolies and Restrictive Trade Practices Commission to order reduction of rates), and for irrigation projects is an expression of his strong  ability to undertake concrete analysis.

Comrade Malla Reddy was also a disciplined and committed revolutionary activist. He combined ideological conviction with an ability to understand changing ground realities and respond to new challenges facing the peasantry. He inspired younger comrades through his dedication, knowledge and personal example, while earning wide respect among farmers and activists beyond the ranks of the organisation.

The All India Kisan Sabha conveys its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, comrades and activists of the Kisan movement, and the people of Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. Comrade Malla Reddy's life of commitment, his rich experience and his unwavering dedication to the cause of the peasantry will continue to inspire generations of activists.
