THE Central Kisan Committee (CKC) meeting of the All India Kisan Sabha (AIKS) was held on June 28-29, 2026 in Mumbai. It was the first CKC meeting held after the AIKS completed 90 years of its glorious existence on April 11, 2026. It was the last CKC meeting before the 36th All India Conference of the AIKS which will be held at Nalgonda in Telangana, a district which was one of the epicentres of the iconic Telangana People’s Armed Struggle.
This was only the second CKC meeting of the AIKS being held in Mumbai. The first was held 84 years ago on September 24-27, 1942, a month and a half after the Quit India call given by Mahatma Gandhi from what is now called the August Kranti Maidan in Mumbai. Three AIKS All India Conferences have been held in Maharashtra – the 2nd Conference in 1936 at Faizpur in Jalgaon district, the 13th Conference in 1955 at Dahanu in the then Thane (now Palghar) district, and the 31st Conference in 2006 at Nashik in Nashik district. Later, an AIKS National Council meeting (AIKC) was held at Wardha in the Vidarbha region in 2015.
INAUGURAL SESSION
A total of 63 CKC members, plus 3 invitees, including all 22 central office bearers, participated in the Mumbai meeting. It began with the flag hoisting by AIKS President Dr Ashok Dhawale, followed by floral tributes to martyrs. The condolence resolution was placed by CKC member Manoj Kumar. The welcome address was delivered by CITU state vice president Dr S K Rege, chairperson of the reception committee, by recalling the historic contribution of Mumbai and Maharashtra to the freedom struggle, and the working class and peasant movements.
Dr R Ramakumar added a great touch of art and history to the function by presenting to the AIKS a beautiful line drawing by the legendary artist Chittaprasad of the mandap of the first Maharashtra State Conference of the AIKS which was held at Titwala in Thane district on January 7, 1945. Former President of the Maharashtra Federation of University and College Teachers Organisations (MFUCTO) Prof Tapati Mukhopadhyay and former Vice President of the Bank Employees Federation of India (BEFI) G M V Nayak greeted the inaugural session.
The Presidential Address was delivered by Ashok Dhawale, and the General Secretary’s Report was placed by General Secretary Vijoo Krishnan. Both these documents analysed the current serious political and agrarian challenges in the world and in our country. 25 members took part in the discussion. The report was unanimously adopted after the reply. On June 30, the CKC members were taken by bus for an enjoyable Mumbai Darshan tour.
