CPI(M) Kerala State Secretariat Review of Local Body Elections
The CPI(M) State Secretariat said in a statement that it will conduct a detailed review into the unexpected setback in the local body elections. The party has moved forward by conducting proper reviews at all stages and making necessary corrections. Through this, the party has a history of regaining more trust.
In the 2010 local body elections, it won only 6 district panchayats. Now it has increased to seven. In 2010, the LDF was able to win 59 block panchayats. Now it has become 77. In 2010, the LDF won 360 gram panchayats. Now it has been able to win 343. If we also take into account the tie in 70 gram panchayats, we will understand that it has not suffered a major setback compared to that time.
In 2010, the LDF was able to win 17 municipalities. Now it has become 28. In the assembly elections held after this election, the LDF was unable to continue in power by a difference of only 2 seats. The propaganda that the LDF is broken has arisen because of a lack of understanding of the realities.
The UDF contested the local body elections by openly and secretly joining hands with all communal forces. There have been many incidents where BJP votes were given to the UDF to defeat the LDF and in turn, UDF votes were given to the BJP. The votes and campaigns of communal forces promoting religious nationalism helped the UDF. The discussions this created also helped the BJP.
The propaganda that the BJP had a big victory in the elections does not match the facts. Although it has become the largest single party in the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation, it did not get an absolute majority. The LDF regained the Pandalam municipality, which the BJP had won earlier. It also lost its majority in the Palakkad municipality. The LDF captured the Kulanada, Cherukol and Mutholi panchayats from the BJP. The BJP has only one district panchayat seat in entire Kerala, in Kasaragod district.
The LDF was able to achieve a big victory in the last local body elections. It will also be examined whether local shortcomings in the activities of successful institutions have led to failure.
The LDF government is leading Kerala towards a Nava Kerala by creating many unparalleled achievements. The local self-government elections are not the state government's assessment. However, it will be examined why its achievements are not reflected in the results.
Whether there have been shortcomings at the organisational level will also be examined and necessary corrections will be made. We will go further to the people and understand their views and thoughts, intervene more strongly and gain more public trust. Interventions for this will be implemented at the government and administrative levels.
DATACHECK
The claim by the BJP -RSS ecosystem and by PM Narendra Modi himself about a HISTORIC victory for the NDA alliance in local body elections is LAUGHABLE.
NDA vote share has substantially reduced from 2024 (Lok Sabha) to 2025 (Local Body) from 19.4 percent to just 14.5 percent, a fall of FIVE percent .
The NDA vote share in 2025 (14.5 per cent) is even less than the vote share in the 2020 local body election (15 percent ).
The UDF alliance will be celebrating its gains. But SURPRISE !
UDF vote share has also reduced from 2020 (local body) 37.9 per cent to 2025( 37.15)
So whose vote share has increased ?
LDF : from 2020 (40.2 per cent) to 2025 (41.55 per cent)
UDF Gets an Edge in Election of Local Bodies
N S Sajith
The opposition United Democratic Front has got an upper hand in the local body elections in Kerala. In the counting for the three tier panchayatis comprised of 941 grama panchayats, 152 bloc panchayats, 14 district panchayats, 87 municipalities and six municipal corporations, the UDF has emerged victorious in the majority of the local bodies. In district panchayats the LDF and the UDF won seven each. The UDF won Kannur, Thrissur and Kochi corporations. The LDF became the largest block in Kozhikode and for the first time in history the BJP led NDA became the largest block with 50 seats out of 101 in the Thiruvananthapuram corporation. In Kollam the UDF emerged as the largest block. In the 2020 elections, the LDF had wrested five corporations, all except Kannur.
The BJP lost Palakkad and Pandalam municipality, which they had won in the 2020 elections. The BJP got only one seat in the 14 district panchayat bodies. The UDF won 181 district panchayat divisions and the LDF won 130 divisions. In the municipalities the UDF won 54, the LDF won 28 and the NDA won 2. In the 941 grama panchayats, the UDF won 505, the LDF won 340 and the BJP won 6. In the 152 bloc panchayats, the UDF won 79 and the LDF won 63.
Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan stated that the Left Democratic Front did not achieve the expected results in the local body elections. Although a massive victory was anticipated across the state, the Front was unable to achieve that goal. The reasons will be examined in detail, necessary corrections will be made, and the Front will move forward.
The fact that the NDA gained an upper hand in the capital city and that communalism influenced the election campaign is a cause for concern for those who believe in secularism. This result serves as a warning that vigilance must be strengthened to prevent people from falling prey to the malicious propaganda and wicked tactics of the communal forces. The result underscores the need to vigorously continue the fight against all forms of communalism.
In the coming days, the LDF will engage in discussions and decisions to thoroughly examine these matters and move forward by garnering the support of the entire populace. The Chief Minister stated in his release that the LDF is committed to working towards strengthening its foundation and increasing public support for the developmental and welfare schemes of the Left Democratic Front government.
