Bihar: Campaign for Phase I of Election Reaches Zenith

Arun Kumar Mishra

Proclivity to resort to lies and slander against opponents comes naturally to the Prime Minister and his cohorts, and they are employing them daily in their election speeches.

Prime Minister and his yes-man Amit Shah have nothing to say about unemployment, corruption of monumental proportion, growing attacks on women, Dalits, minorities and other sections of marginalized communities, and the large scale migration which came into full play when the migrants workers took their homeward journey to take part in Bihar’s most popular festival Chhath, packed like sardines in all the Bihar bound trains from different parts of the country. The shocking news of three deaths and injuries to several passengers was reported from Mumbai. Before that, the government had boasted of providing 12,000 trains to ferry migrant workers and other Bihari citizens residing in different states. It was a ridiculous claim which became a matter of jokes and the standup comedians had a field day lampooning the government.

Prime Minister and other BJP leaders are reminding the people of Bihar about the so called era of Jungle Raj during Lalu regime without mentioning the horror stories of Muzaffarpur sex scandal where young girls living in a stay-home were subjected to cruel sexual exploitation in connivance with the manager, bureaucrats and the Minister in-charge of women’s welfare department under BJP-JD(U) regime. They have nothing to say about the indictment by the CAG regarding the unfurnished bills of accounts of Rs 70,000 crore, meant for development at the Panchayat level under various heads of social development.

On the other hand Mahagathbandhan constituents have raised the issues of unemployment, education, health, housing and measures to better the lives of migrants and unorganized sector workers providing them employment at local level and higher remunerations.

The promise of a Government job for one member of every family by Tejashwi Yadav, and other welfare measures announced by RJD, Congress, CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML) have cornered the NDA and now they are forced to come out with their own version of social security measures, with Nitish Kumar also promising that  one crore people will be provided jobs if he comes to power.

On October 26, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member Com. A.V. Raghvan addressed the workers of Mahagathbandhan allies in Kopa under Manjhi constituency from where Dr. Satyendra Yadav is the CPI (M) candidate. He spoke in detail about the Kerala model and how it became the number one state, eliminating extreme poverty and achieving the highest rank on almost all the human development indicators. He said that the Mahagathbandhan can fulfill the promises if they involve the people in finalising and implementing pro-people policies at the grass root level. CPI(M) will see that the promises made by the Mahagathbandhan are implemented.

Emphasizing the role of Bihar in leading the rest of the country in restoring democracy in the past, he hoped that the 2025 Assembly election of Bihar will herald a new political path leading not only to dethroning the  NDA rule and “Paltu Ram” in Bihar but will pave the way for dethroning RSS backed BJP at the Centre which is bent on imposing majoritarian theocratic rule subverting the secular, democratic republic of India.

PB member Ashok Dhawale visited Hayaghat and Bibhutipur and addressed largely attended meetings of Mahagathbandhan workers. While lambasting the two decades of BJP-JD(U) misrule in Bihar he exhorted the Mahagathbandhan workers to put all out energy to install Mahagathbandhan government under the leadership of Tejashwi Yadav.

State Secretary Lalan Chowdhary and Central Committee member Awadhesh Kumar also addressed the gathering along with Vinod Kumar, P.N. Rao and other Secretariat members. Both the P.B. members in their campaign trail underlined the need to guard the booths in every constituency and see that BJP- JD(U) are not allowed to steal the votes.

It is to be noted here that in Bibhutipur and Manjhi people have a lot of appreciation for the work done by the two CPI(M) MLAs in their respective constituencies and are determined to elect them by voting overwhelmingly in their favour.

A new phenomenon of public contribution for the party candidate in Hayaghat, Shyam Bharti, has been observed. People are coming forward to contribute to the party fund according to their capacities and are assuring him to vote in his favour.
