THE Party Media In-Charges’ meeting was held in New Delhi on August 26-27, 2025 at HKS Surjeet Bhawan. The meeting began at 10:45 am on August 26 and was focused on strengthening the Party’s media work. Spread over two days, the discussions were organised in two sessions. The first session focused on the tasks concerning Party dailies, while the second session addressed work related to Party weeklies, periodicals, and theoretical journals.
Addressing the gathering, Party General Secretary M A Baby recalled Lenin’s famous observation on the role of the newspaper as a collective propagandist, agitator, and organiser. He stressed the importance of sharpening the political role of Party media in the current context. Baby highlighted how the RSS, through the BJP, has entrenched itself in power and has been advancing its Hindutva based cultural nationalist project, which has managed to influence a substantial section of people. He underlined the urgent need to expose this project and to free people from the hold of this communal project. He emphasized the role of social media in countering reactionary propaganda and called for a convergence of efforts across all platforms, including the use of technological innovations, to ensure effective dissemination of the Party’s positions. Recalling the words of EMS Namboodiripad, he reminded that Party papers are foremost the organs of a working-class party but must also cater to non-Party readers. He noted that the 24th Party Congress had mandated such a meeting precisely to improve the functioning of Party media.
Nilotpal Basu, editor of People’s Democracy, underlined the significance of the meeting. He pointed out that it was being held after a gap of more than eight years, the last such gathering having taken place in Hyderabad in 2017. He stressed that in the ongoing battle of ideas, the role of Party publications will be crucial. Among the key challenges, he mentioned the task of dailies to cover the wide range of issues that emerge on a regular basis. He observed that unless the quality and conscious role of human resources are improved, this challenge cannot be effectively met. He emphasized the importance of presenting a clear counter-narrative, rooted in the political resolution of the 24th Party Congress, and noted that in the face of growing assaults even on mainstream media, the responsibility of Party organs to present the truth becomes even more crucial. He also spoke of the need to harness technology for sharing materials and improving efficiency, while underlining the importance of financial stability, advertisements, and strategies for circulation growth.
The meeting was chaired by Rajender Sharma from Lok Lahar and was attended by media in-charges from Deshabhimani, Ganashakti, Theekathir, Nava Telangana, Prajasakti, Daily Desher Katha, People’s Democracy, Lok Lahar, Desh Sewak, Jeevan Marg, Assam Ganashakti, Lok Jatan, Chinta, Marxist Tamil, Deshhitaishee, Telugu Marxist, and Jeevan Marg. The deliberations reflected a collective determination to strengthen the Party’s ideological and organisational presence through its diverse media platforms.
