J&K: JKDYF Holds Kulgam District Conference

THE Jammu and Kashmir Democratic Youth Federation (JKDYF) held its 5th one-day district conference at Kulgam on August 2. The presidium comprised Wahid Sultan Dar, Mohd. Abass Rather, Javed Iqbal Parrey, Sheeraz Ahmad Dar, Irshad Ahmad, and Imtiaz Ahmad Dar.

The JKDYF flag was unfurled by Wahid Sultan Bhat, state president.

In his inaugural address, Abdul Rashid Zainpora, former state secretary, highlighted the dire situation faced by the youth of Jammu and Kashmir in the absence of employment opportunities and a dignified life. He emphasized the need for a united struggle against the government's exploitative policies, including contractualisation of jobs with meagre wages and no job security.

Aashaq Hussain Dar, the outgoing district secretary, presented the secretary’s report, detailing the activities carried out by the Federation over the past three years.

Wahid Sultan Dar, president of JKDYF, stressed the importance of strengthening the organisation to more effectively address the pressing issues of youth and society. He demanded the immediate restoration of democratic rights in the state to ensure that the legitimate concerns of youth, including the right to a dignified life, are addressed.

Mohd. Abass Rather, member of the central executive committee of DYFI and vice president of JKDYF, strongly refuted the BJP government’s claims that the abrogation of Article 370 would create a surge in employment opportunities. “On the contrary, the number of educated unemployed youth – PhD scholars, doctors, technocrats, postgraduates, and graduates – has increased manifold since the abrogation,” he stated. He urged the government to announce an urgent employment package to harness youth talent for nation-building. He also called for the restoration of democratic rights, including the right to protest and demonstrate, as guaranteed by the Constitution.

JKDYF secretary Javed Iqbal Parrey asserted that youth are catalysts for change and called on those in power to recognise and invest in their potential for the greater good of society.

Other speakers included Sheeraz Ahmad Dar, Irshad Ahmad, and Imtiaz Ahmad Dar.

A total of 150 delegates participated in the conference. A 21-member district committee was elected, with Amar Mansoor as district president and Rayees Ahmad Itoo as district secretary.
