Polit Bureau Statements
CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statements
Stop the Genocide in Gaza
THE Polit Bureau of the Communist Party of India (Marxist) expresses its deep anguish at the continuing Israeli aggression on Gaza. It demands an immediate end to Israeli attacks and enforcement of a ceasefire.
In April 2025 alone, 2,037 Palestinians were killed in Israeli air and ground attacks. In the last two days, more than 200 Palestinians lost their lives. Since October 7, 2023, a total of 53,384 Palestinians have been killed, 94 per cent of whom were civilians – 51 per cent children, 16 per cent women, and 8 per cent elderly.
After denying the entry of aid trucks for more than two months, Israel has permitted only nominal aid to enter Gaza. As a result, we see extreme levels of starvation. Encouraged by US support, Israel is now talking about occupying the entire Gaza strip.
The BJP led Government of India should exert pressure on Israel to stop its genocidal attacks. It should join the demand for trying its leaders for war crimes and genocide.
The CPI(M) reiterates its solidarity with the people of Palestine and for their just demand for a Palestine State with pre-1967 borders and East Jerusalem as the capital.

On the Encounter of Maoists
THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) strongly condemns the encounter of 27 Maoists, including their General Secretary Nambala Kesavarao, in Chhattisgarh. Ignoring repeated appeals from the Maoists for talks, the central government and the BJP-led Chhattisgarh state government have chosen not to pursue a solution through dialogue. Instead, they are following an inhuman policy of killings and annihilation.
The statements made by the union home minister, reiterating the deadline and the Chhattisgarh chief minister’s statement that there is no need for talks, reflect a fascistic mindset that appears to celebrate the taking of human lives and are against democracy.
Many political parties and concerned citizens have appealed to the government to consider the request for dialogue. In spite of our opposition to Maoists’ politics, we urge the government to immediately accept their request for talks and halt all paramilitary operations.

On Diplomatic Outreach
CPI(M) Polit Bureau has issued the following statement on May 17, 2025
THE Communist Party of India (Marxist) feels that it is unfortunate that the prime minister and his government refused to convene a special session of Parliament to discuss the Pahalgam terror attack and subsequent developments. We urge the government to immediately convene the Parliament session, apprise the people of India and also provide opportunities to seek clarifications if any.
The prime minister instead chose to call a meeting of the chief ministers of only the BJP-NDA ruled states to brief them about ‘Operation Sindoor’. This is discriminatory, especially on an issue of national importance. We demand that the government call a meeting of all the chief ministers of the country, including those from the opposition, for such a briefing.
The government is first accountable to the people of India and should be transparent in its actions. The campaign by ruling party leaders and even state ministers to communalise the situation must stop forthwith.
The government has called the leader of our Party in the Rajya Sabha and informed him about the various delegations that it has decided to send to different countries as part of its diplomatic outreach. Despite our reservations mentioned above and while reiterating our above demands, in the larger national interest we feel obliged to be part of such a delegation.
