Call for Relentless Struggle against Trinamool & BJP

Subinoy Moulik

ADDRESSING a massive public meeting at Dankuni Football Ground on February 25, after the conclusion of the state conference, CPI(M) leaders called for an immediate and relentless fight to save Bengal from the Trinamool and BJP. They stated that the people feel helpless and disillusioned by the politics of Trinamool and BJP and emphasized the need to connect with the people and protect Bengal.

The CPI(M)'s state conference outlined a phased programme with specific timelines for the upcoming assembly elections next year, starting from February 26. CPI(M) state secretary, Mohammad Salim declared that the fight will begin on the 26th and will be continuous. He announced plans for a massive gathering of the poor at Brigade Ground on April 20, preceded by localised struggles focused on people's demands.

Mohammad Salim, Prakash Karat, CPI(M) Polit Bureau member and Central Committee coordinator, Central Committee member Deblina Hembram, and youth leader Minakshi Mukherjee addressed the gathering, which was chaired by Debabrata Ghosh,   Party's  Hooghly district secretary. The leaders expressed confidence in the support of the people and declared that the red flag has gained strength in the fight against looters and exploiters. They vowed not to tolerate the oppression faced by ordinary people.

Salim emphasized that the people's resistance, symbolised by the red flag, had successfully challenged the orchestrated polarisation by both the Trinamool Congress and the BJP, as demonstrated in the panchayat and by-elections. However, he expressed concern that these parties have since resorted to dividing people along religious lines for political gain. Salim criticised the RSS-BJP for initially aligning with Mamata Banerjee to oust the Left Front government and later exploiting the state. He also condemned Mohan Bhagwat’s support for the Trinamool government following the RG Kar incident, as well as the collusion between the CBI and state police. Salim warned that the Trinamool and BJP might instigate riots to secure electoral victories, citing the Beldanga riots as an example. He urged CPI(M) members to remain vigilant and work proactively to prevent such communal violence.

Deblina Hembram questioned the chief minister’s strategy of seeking votes by promising funds from government schemes while simultaneously intimidating voters. Minakshi Mukherjee dismissed claims that voting for the Left is futile, highlighting the historical role of the red flag in safeguarding the rights of workers, peasants, and laborers. She stressed that the weakening of the Left would lead to the exploitation of people’s rights and resources. Debabrata Ghosh highlighted the success of their outreach campaign in the Hooghly district, which garnered significant public support and helped establish strong connections with the people.

The massive gathering was also attended by other CPI(M) leaders, including Biman Basu, Surya Mishra, Brinda Karat, Nilotpal Basu, Tapan Sen, Sreedip Bhattacharya, and Hannan Mollah.
