ON December 30, in response to the national call by Left parties, a joint protest was organised at district and tehsil headquarters across Rajasthan by the Communist Party of India (Marxist), the Communist Party of India, the Communist Party of India (ML), and various other Left and democratic and organisations. The protests were organised against the derogatory remarks made by Union Home Minister Amit Shah in Parliament about Dr BR Ambedkar.
During the protests, effigies of Amit Shah were burned, and immediate demands were made for his resignation.
Through these protests across the country, Left parties not only condemned the insulting remarks about Dr Ambedkar but also described them as an attack on the core values of Indian democracy and the Constitution. Amit Shah's remarks against Dr Ambedkar reflect the regressive and casteist politics of Hindutva. Such statements are attempts to create divisions within society.
Left parties have made it clear that they will continue their struggle to safeguard constitutional values and oppose Hindutva politics.
During the protests in the state, speakers demanded Prime Minister Narendra Modi to take swift action by dismissing Home Minister Amit Shah and refraining from tampering with the Constitution and the federal structure of the country under the pretext of "One Nation, One Election." They warned the BJP-RSS central government to stop its sinister attempts to replace the Constitution with the Manusmriti through backdoor measures; otherwise, the government should be prepared to face serious consequences. They urged the people to participate in even larger numbers in the upcoming movements and engage in decisive struggles against the Modi government, which promotes unconstitutional and casteist systems.
During the protests, effigies of Amit Shah were burned at district and tehsil headquarters in districts such as Sikar, Jhunjhunu, Anupgarh, Jaipur, Churu, Hanumangarh, Sri Ganganagar, Bharatpur, Udaipur, Dungarpur, Didwana-Kuchaman, Bikaner, Tonk, Alwar, Jodhpur, Jalore, Kota, and others.
