Uttarakhand: CPI(M) Pays Tributes to Comrade Sitaram Yechury

TO pay tributes to former general secretary of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), Comrade Sitaram Yechury, a meeting was organised by the CPI(M) Uttarakhand state committee at the Press Club Auditorium in Dehradun on September 22. Various political parties and social organisations participated, including CPI(M), CPI, CPI(ML), Congress, SP, BSP, IUP, UKD, JDS, Mahila Manch, Janwadi Mahila Samiti, CITU, AITUC, Ambedkar Committee, SFI, DYFI, Garhwal Sabha, Sarvodaya Mandal, BGVS, AILU, IFTA, Uttarakhand Andolankari Parishad, Chetna Andolan, DHAD, UPPA, Bank, Insurance, Jan Samvad, Bar Council Uttarakhand, among others.

Addressing the meeting, CPI(M) Central Committee member Vikram Singh said that the passing of Comrade Yechury is an irreparable loss not only for the Party but for the broader Left movement and Indian politics. With his demise, we have lost a soft-spoken, prominent national and international leader. He emphasized that Comrade Yechury's gentle nature endeared him to all and that he tirelessly worked to strengthen secular and democratic forces while opposing communalism. He added that Comrade Yechury’s contributions will always be remembered.

The condolence meeting was also addressed by CPI National Council member Samar Bhandari, CPI(M) state secretary Rajendra Negi, CPI(ML) state secretary Indresh Maikhuri, Congress leaders Sheeshpal Singh Bisht and Surendra Kumar Agarwal, BSP president Digvijay Singh, SP general secretary Abha Barthwal, UKD leader Latafat Hussain, DAV College spokesperson Sumer Chand Ravi, Sarvodaya Mandal’s Harbir Singh Kushwaha, Mahila Manch’s Kamla Pant, Janwadi Mahila Samiti vice president Indu Naudiyal, general secretary Damayanti Negi, Kisan Sabha general secretary Gangadhar Nautiyal, and CITU general secretary Mahendra Jakhmola, among others.

Comrade Sitaram Yechury was an extraordinary leader of the Communist Party of India (Marxist), a stalwart of the Left movement, and a well-known Marxist theoretician.

Earlier, Party leaders and many social organisations paid floral tributes to Comrade Yechury’s portrait and honoured his memory.

The meeting was presided over by Surendra Singh Sajwan and conducted by Rajendra Purohit. Folk songs were performed by Satish Dhaulakhandi and other comrades.
