Below we publish the condolence message given by Sitaram Yechury, CPI(M) general secretary, which was sent to the secretary of the West Bengal state committee of the CPI(M) on August 8, 2024

DEAR Comrade,

It is with a heavy heart that I received the news of the death of Comrade Buddhadeb Bhattacharya this morning. I was undergoing a surgery for cataract in one of my eyes, after which this sad news was conveyed to me.

My association with him goes back many decades. We were close associates in the Central Committee and Polit Bureau for a very long time.

His dedication to the Party, West Bengal, our shared ideals and also his ability to look ahead will always function as a lodestar.

In this hour of grief I convey my heartfelt condolences to the entire rank and file of the Party in West Bengal, to his wife Meera Bhattacharya and son Suchetan.
