Tripura: COMRADE SAMAR ADHYA

COMRADE Samar Adhya, a prominent leader of the state’s Left movement, former member of the CPI(M) Tripura state committee, and currently the cashier of the state committee of the Party, passed away on July 27, 2024, in a private hospital in Agartala. On July 24, he performed his normal duties throughout the day at the office. However, in the evening, he suffered a cerebral stroke at his residence. He was immediately taken to ILS Hospital, where doctors urgently performed brain surgery on him. Despite the surgery, his condition deteriorated, and he was placed on ventilation before ultimately passing away. He was 69 years old.

Since his school days, Comrade Samar Adhya was involved in the student movement under the banner of TSSF (Tripura State Students’ Federation), affectionately known as 'SF.' In the 1970s, while studying at Bir Bikram Evening (BBE) College in Agartala, he emerged as an important student leader in the state. He was president of the SFI, Sadar Divisional Unit, and joint secretary of the SFI state committee. In 1981, he was elected as a member of the SFI executive committee. He also served two terms as general secretary of the Students Council of BBE College.

While engaged in the student movement, Comrade Samar Adhya became a member of the CPI(M) in 1970. In the 1980s, he transitioned from student activities to fully involving himself in Party organisation. In 2005, he was elected as a state committee member of the Party. He successfully served as secretary of the Party’s Sadar Sub-Divisional Committee from 2005 to 2014 and was a member of the West Tripura district secretariat from its formation until 2015. During the 23rd Party state conference held in 2022, he was relieved from the state committee at his request due to health reasons. In 2020, he was assigned to manage the finances of the state committee, a role he performed diligently until his last day. In 2014, Comrade Samar Adhya was part of the CPI(M) delegation that visited China at the invitation of the CPC. He played an instrumental role in establishing the "Students Health Home" in Agartala in the 1990s to provide affordable health services to students.

The Tripura state secretariat of the Party described him as a dedicated communist leader, steadfast in Marxist ideology, and sincere in any task he was assigned.
