A BIG rally was organised in the historical village of Bundala, Jalandhar district, on April 11, 2024, to inaugurate the election campaign of Master Parshotam Lal Bilga, CPI(M) candidate from the Jalandhar constituency. Bundala holds significance as the native village of Comrade Harkishan Singh Surjeet.
Addressing the gathering, CPI(M) state secretary Sukhwinder Singh Sekhon outlined the unfulfilled promises of the BJP government led by Narendra Modi during the parliamentary elections of 2014 and 2019. He highlighted the issue of unemployment, pointing out that Modi promised to create two crore jobs annually, totaling to 20 crore jobs. However, instead of creating these jobs, 45 lakh youth have become unemployed during this period. Additionally, black money has not been repatriated to the country, and the promised Rs 15 lakh per household has not materialised. Sekhon criticised the Modi government for privatising public sector, natural resources, land, and national wealth, favouring a few corporate entities. He said Modi introduced electoral bonds to legalise corruption, with the BJP receiving around Rs 12000 crores through these bonds. He highlighted that while other parties, including TMC, Congress, and some regional parties, accepted these funds, the CPI(M) refused to do so. Sekhon warned that if the BJP is re-elected and Modi remains prime minister, it could lead to constitutional changes, undermining of the federal structure of the country, and endangering of democracy. He condemned the Modi government for misusing constitutional institutions for political gain and for threatening opposition leaders.
Speaking on the initiatives taken by the Left Front government of Kerala, Sekhon emphasized that the Kerala government is paying the highest minimum wages in the country, and its ministers/MLAs are working for minimum honorarium. He elaborated on the Kerala model of development and its numerous services benefiting the people. He urged Party workers to reach out to the masses and explain the dangers of the Modi government, emphasizing the need to remove it from power.
Regarding the AAP government of Punjab, he noted that while the AAP claims to be honest, its ministers are facing corruption charges and are being imprisoned. He introduced Parshotam Lal Bilga to the gathering.
Balwant Singh Ramoowalia, former central cabinet minister, also addressed the meeting among many others and pledged full support to the Party candidates in Punjab. Parshotam Lal Bilga also spoke.
Balwinder Singh, Shaninder Shindi, and Balbir Kaur, the village sarpanch of Bundala, presided over the meeting. Sukhpreet Singh Johal, CPI(M) state secretariat member, conducted the proceedings.
