Below we publish the statement issued by CPI(M) Assam state committee on March 13

THE CPI(M) Assam state committee strongly opposes the implementation of the CAA, 2019 from March 11, 2024 by notifying the Rules on that day. Right from the beginning, the CPI(M) is opposing the CAA as it clearly violates the ethos of the Constitution of India and it is rabidly communal in nature. The CAA clearly violates the Assam Accord according to which the cutoff date for detection of foreigners was fixed as March 25, 1971 in the state. Despite massive protest against the CAA in Assam, the imposition of CAA in the state may lead to serious unrest in the state. The minister of minority affairs admitted in the Lok Sabha on December 9, 2021 that the CAA is sub-judice as more than 200 applications are pending in the Supreme Court against the CAA. It is shocking that even after admitting that CAA is sub-judice, the BJP government has framed the rules just on the eve of the Lok Sabha elections with ulterior political motives.

The Assam state committee of CPI(M) demands immediate repeal of CAA, 2019 and its rules.
