Delhi: DSMM Holds Dr Ambedkar Memorial Meeting
DALIT Shoshan Mukti Manch held a memorial meeting in New Delhi on December 6, to remember Dr Bhimrao Ambedkar on his death anniversary and the contributions made by him. On this occasion several speakers highlighted the contributions made by Dr Amberdkar in the field of social justice. All the speakers noted how the caste system in our country has exploitated and oppressed the dalits.
It is clear that Dr Ambedkar wanted the destruction of caste system but in India today the gap between upper castes and lower castes is increasing day by day, especially after the Modi government came to power. Attacks on dalit community are increasing and forces of Hindutva have contributed in it. The corporate-communal nexus is ruling the country and issues of bread and butter have become dire for the dalit community.
The meeting also underlined the need for mobilising dalit community at a bigger level so that the fight against the Manuwadi forces and Hindutva could be taken to its logical conclusion.
Sitaram Yechury, general secretary of the CPI(M) attended the meeting and paid floral tributes to Dr Ambedkar. The meeting was addressed by B Venkat (AIAWU), Hannan Mollah (AIKS), Nathu Prasad (DSMM), VS Nirmal (AIDRM) and others.
